I went back and forth between #7 and #8. When I started drinking micro beers in the late 80s, there were a lot of English (amber) and German styles available (marzen), along with browns. Will always be my favorite.

I think “Pale Gold” is the color of Pliny The Elder, Racer 5, etc. (West Coast IPA & SNPA). So that would be my choice, 4 in the color chart but #3 in the poll.

A true experience would necessitate using, sense of sight, taste and smell, so the question is just directed to one of the experiences I would say.

Either ruby brown (American strong ales, barelywines, dark Belgian ales, Flanders red, our bruin) or pale amber (Orval, funky farmhouse ales, kellerbier).
Both are just beautiful in the glass imo

Respectfully, I don't have a favorite. :disappointed If the beer smells good and tastes good, it's my favorite color. :relaxed:

Where's "Ruby Red"? Guinness' "Fact Sheet" for their stouts says:

Schlitz was also "Ruby Red" for a time.

Oh, wait. For Schlitz, it was the color of their glass bottle.

Yeah, that's always been the problem with the SRM (Standard Research Method) Number Scale for beer colors. When they are printed on paper or shown on one's computer screen, they are not translucent.

I voted for #10, which can be many of my favorite styles: brown ale, dunkel, Czech dark lager, oak-aged wild ale, barleywine, old ale, quad, Flanders red, or even fruit beer (e.g. New Glarus).

A true experience of objectivity in beer tasting would necessitate pitchblack tasting recipients and infrared light, so the aroma and taste impressions are not tricked by the judgemental eye.

    Fair enough!

I know you said beer tasting, but hopefully you don’t meet your mate without first getting a good look, I know it’s just a look, but a picture is worth a thousand words! Cheers!

I chose #10 because that's about the color of Schneider Aventinus.

It can cover the dark Weizenbocks, Dunkelweizens, Doppelbocks (the dark ones, of course!), Munich Dunkels, and some Bocks.

A close 2nd (and/or 3rd) would be #s 6 and 7. For Oktoberfests (Märzens), Viennas, barleywines, and many Hefeweizens (after the yeast has been decanted into the glass). Some bocks as well.
