I was washing my favorite Duvel Eley Kishimoto beer glass a couple weeks ago and while trying to shake out the last bit of remaining water I caught the edge of my granite counter top. Surprisingly the whole glass didn't instantly shatter but instead took a large chip out of the rim of the glass. Being as this was my favorite glass I have been ever so delicately trying to hold on to it but after washing this morning a large hairline fracture stretched from the chip to the bottom of the glass and I know the time of doom is near. Whats your favorite limited edition glass? And have you ever broke any that are irreplaceable? Thanks for your responses I'm interested to hear similar stories
Broke a Cantillon Tulip glass about 8 days after getting it, slipped out of my hand as I was putting away
Not limited edition, but got a great lakes snifter in our Gang Bang BIF and 2 days later was washing it, Stuck my hand in to far and took a chunk out of the side. One piece. Glued in back. Looks like shit, but works. Cheers!
I have broke a De Struise tasting glass, Westy Chalice and Dogfish head chalice. Besides the Westy I haven't seen any of them again.
Broke a Hill Farmstead wine glass / goblet. Not irreplaceable, but annoying nonetheless. Only glass I don't bring out with me is my Fantome tulip, don't want to go through the hassle of replacing that one. Cheers!
i broke a FFF intelligentsia mini snifter. came home from an epic tasting and it was broken and in my pocket. there were lots of holes in what happened that evening in my memory, but i remember it was epic. i did manage to replace it, but had to drop some whale meat to do so.
I was reaching for the garbage disposal and managed to knock a champagne flute into the side of my CBS snifter. The cheap and replaceable flute survived undamaged, but the snifter was not so lucky. It knocked a good sized hole at the bottom of it and any attempt to repair it was unsuccessful. Luckily, I ordered two.
Those CBS snifters love to break. Just glanced mine with another glass and it was shattered into a half-a-dozen pieces. The other glass survived.
A Cantillon gueuze glass I was bringing back from Belgium didn't make the trip. Fortunately, I brought 2 back!
I just discovered a sliver chip on the rim of my Arne Duvel Quinze glass. Not that big of a chip, but super sharp. Have any of you tried filing down chips like this before? Did it work and what did you use?
Although I have never tried it, I would probably advise against trying that. Take it to your local glass blowing shop and ask them to take a look at it, they might just be able to fix it on the spot if it's a small blemish.
I just broke my Cantillon tulip last night. Sucks that it's the first glass I've broken. I was hand-washing it in the sink and it slipped out of my hands. A 8" fall to the rubber mat thing in the bottom of the sink was enough to break it at the stem. Fucking sucks!!
I thought about that. Unfortunately the stem broke, then there's a little jagged chunk of stem that broke out, then the rest of the stem and base. So if it had simply broke in one place, it might be fixable. But I think this one is a goner
