Didn't know the term hoppy always come down to IBU?
    Aromatics and bitterness.

It does here in Canada, tall boy cans to boot.

Most are bitter and overcarb'd? Well I can't speak to that as I've not had most. And the ones I drink around here are generally very fresh and comparable in quality to those I've had in fresh in Germany or on tap around here. Are there some differences, yes, but being bitter overcarb'd messes are not part of those differences.

It doesn't but most people on this site who use "hoppy" mean bitter, and that’s why they get excited by IBUs because there is a sort of relationship between bitterness and IBUs.

So basically when someone talks about a hoppy beer the most likely thing they mean is bitterness.

Try more pils from the US. Most suck.

Slow down on the assumptions amigo. Most of what I drink here is brewed in the US. And in a couple of cases I can go drink them at the brewery.

Its just that we have enough good local ones I don't need to worry about something that has to be transported across the entire US.

I wish that were the case for me!
No assumptions if I've had quite a bit. I said MOST not ALL.
Which do you get in PA that are great?

Well within an easy drive and on tap many places around here there are different interpretations that include Prima Pils if I'm in the mood for something a bit highly hopped and similar to what used to be found in north Germany 20-30 years ago. If I'm in the mood for a more southern German Pils (softer and gentler) I go for the Stoudts Pils. Then there's the Sly Fox Pikeland Pils which is a more middle of the road. More recently there is the Neshaminy Creek Trauger Pils which I've not had enough of yet to be sure I understand it. But which I think has great potential to become a regular in my fridge rotation.

BTW: the assumption I was referring to was that my earlier post indicated that I mostly drank European Pils beers. I've had a good number but in Europe or on tap here.

Edit: Whoops! I left out one of the top ones I guess because it is a seasonal and I've not gotten my case yet. The Troeg's Sunshine Pils which at its best can be a thing of great joy.

Edit: This also leaves out those that are on tap at the brewery only, E.g., the Victory Braumeister series.

    Tom,

I also enjoy drinking the beers you mentioned. FWIW, I have had Neshaminy Creek Trauger Pils on draft about a dozen times; it is a high quality German style Pilsner IMO.

Some of my other favorite PA brewed Pilsners beyond what you have already posted:

Sly Fox: Tettnang Keller Pils, Standard Pils, Charles Bridge Pilsner, 2nd Street Pils,

Victory: Hip Czech, Braumeister Pils – Sladek, Braumeister Pils – Hallertauer Mittelfruh, Braumeister Pils – Saaz, Braumeister Pils – Tettnang, Braumeiser Pils - Spalt

    Triumph: German Pilsner, Czech Pilsner

    Troegs: Sunshine Pils

    Straub: German Pilsner

    Cheers!

Well you get out drinking more often than I do... :-)

First time I see the Trauger on tap I'll be getting it without fail as I want to see if its got all the potential that was there in the undated can I have tried.

I was sort of limiting my list a bit since some of them you gotta be here to have a chance to try, but you've also mentioned more than one I've not run across yet, so thanks for that list.

There has been some talk that this could be happening (I'd assume 12oz not 16).

Urquell is probably my favorite pilsner in the world. It's a criminally underrated and underrepresented style, in my opinion. Pivo is really good, and don't sleep on Mama's Little Yella Pils.

Sunshine and Pivo are two that I like very much. As you said, Pivo strikes me as bright, while for me, Sunshine is a gentler affair. I'm probably in the tiny minority, but none of canned beer from Sly Fox has ever clicked with me. I do really enjoy their cask ale though. I'd be surprised if you couldn't pick out which beer was which if you had those four pils blind.

As I made mention above, for some weird reason I very much prefer Sly Fox Pikeland Pils on draft vs. in cans. I have only had the Sly Fox Helles beer in cans a handful of times but I also much prefer that beer on draft as well. Last weekend I was at a local beer bar and they had the Sly Fox Helles on tap and I ordered one and that beer was absolutely glorious!! I drank it quickly and ordered another pint.

I started a thread quite some time ago discussing Pikeland Pils on draft vs. canned: http://www.beeradvocate.com/communi...draft-different-than-in-the-bottle-can.98641/

I would highly recommend that you drink some Sly Fox beers like Pikeland Pils, Helles, etc., onf draft if you have the opportunity. I would be curious to see if your palate is similar to mine in this matter.

    Cheers!

P.S. I should mention that I think the Sly Fox canned beers are good. From time to time I will buy a 6-pack of Pikeland Pils. I just wish their canned beers tasted as good as their draft versions.

Have you had any of their beer from cask?

Many times! They have two beer engines at their brewpub in Phoenixville.

I will be attending the Yards 8th Annual Philadelphia Real Ale Invitational tomorrow and I sure hope that Sly Fox provide a firkin at tomorrow's event (they have in the past).

    Cheers!

P.S. A few months ago they had their Oatmeal Stout on cask at the brewpub. That particular beer really shined on cask!!

P.S.S. The beer they consistently have on cask at the pub is Chester County Bitter.

    From the brewery’s website:

Some ideas are simply ahead of their time. The stuff in this can, however, is right on schedule. We channeled a madman's spirit and wild ingenuity to create this truly unique version of a classic. Wonderstuff delivers the clean, balanced flavors you'd expect from a Bohemian Style Pilsner, but with a powerful, citrus hop twist. Truly the stuff of wonder, this beer will change the way you think about light lagers.

Do you happen to know what hops are used to brew this beer?

    Cheers!

Oh, that's right. I remember hearing some rumors. Sixers of 12 oz. cans would be kick ass. I buy their Steel Rail Pale Ale in six packs already, Czech Pils in that format would be a nice addition to their menu.
