Stopped into Cerberus for lunch today. The Elysium IPA is really solid. Juicy with all the tropical notes you'd want from a NE style. Haven't been down to the Springs in a minute, but I have to imagine these guys are being well received. The place is packed for a Tuesday! A nice addition to the local beer scene, especially for hop lovers. Coming up on 1 year according to the bartender. Food is really good too!

Had high hopes for the new canned Crooked Stave IPA based on the feedback in this forum and enjoying their draft only IPAs at the taproom for about a year and a half now but I have to say I wasn't impressed with this at all. Very citrusy and not much more flavor than that and too over carbed for my liking. Little hop burn on the back end as well. It's not undrinkable by any means and the price point is great but I probably won't purchase again.

Beer #2 of the night, Alpha Bits cans from WW. Had high hopes for this one as well based on WW track record with IPAs and very rarely having a beer from them I didn't care for. Well, I was also let down by this one. I got pineapple, orange rind and grapefruit on the nose but unfortunately the flavor didn't match that. Very bland taste and just not much going on flavor wise. Hazy look and somewhat soft mouthfeel but that was it. I'd definitely rank it in the middle of the pack of my favorite/leaat favorites of the Alpha Bits series. At 14.99/4pack I probably won't buy this again.

What is the date on the can of the CS IPA? I didn't get this at all, but it was also about two weeks old with the first round hit shelves.

Interesting. Were you drinking these straight from the fridge? With alpha bits I liked it more at 50 degrees than 38.

Canning date was 8/1 so just over 3 weeks.

That's about the temp range I drank it at cuz that's how I prefer Alpha Bits as as well. Just wasn't doing it for me.

I'll definitely be drinking both of these again in the next couple days so we'll see if anything changes either with the beer or my palate. Maybe I was just having an "off" night.

Interesting, I was guessing it was just drank too quick, but that's not the case. I know mine were a different date, so it could be a batch consistency issue. I'll probably grab another sixer today and we'll see

Do tell? haha don't know anything about the owner but sounds like he did something to piss some brewing community peeps off?

Sidenote: the beer was good but not great and wouldn't pay the steep pricetag again. It had a nice tropical flavor that was good but I really dont' care for strictly juice bombs and not usually that into New England style Ipas'.

Pretty sure mine were dated 8/2 and I thought it was great. Haven't seen Alpha bits yet but if it actually is $14.99 a 4 pack I will be passing on it a lot

It's a long story, but Jason Yester has a pretty long history of saying/writing whatever he feels at the moment. Often times that can involve insults (often very overt ones) or trolling. They're also not well known for their customer service and wear that as a badge of honor at times.

That said, sometimes he's one of the only people who will speak out for/against something and he does know his stuff. He's also deserves some credit as a CO brewing pioneer as well.

I never know how to feel about the guy because I love and hate various things he's said and done. I suppose he deserves a slight smile, an eye roll, and a shrug all at once.

Brite tank is too old, take a page from tree house and drink it from the fermenter before the yeast drops.

You guys aren't talking Odd13, right? Because at 3 weeks it still needs another week of aging before it's ready to go.

After 30 days isn't an IPA technically an American barleywine? After 60 it's an American strong ale. After 90 it's an English Barleywine. After 120 it's marinade. After 150 it's a lambic.

    ...or something like that.

I have to admit I feel you on the flavor being slightly muted on the cans that I tried. I still really liked it, but it didn't quite have the bang that some of the other WW offerings. The aroma was awesome, and they do such a good job of creating that haze without having the slightly turbid hop particulate mouth feel I get in some of the other hazy/NE ipas out there. I would def buy more, but I'd have to agree that the flavor a little lacking. Maybe it'll pop a little more here in a week or two..
