Potts Octoberfest is one I look forward to every year even though I almost forget about it every year... Anyone try it yet this year?

I haven't, but I agree 100%. Potts is my favorite of the chain brewpubs. I even like their flagships. Plus, I like that they usually have at least one seasonal lager and the different locations share the one-offs. Their burgers aren't bad, too.

Went to Bierstadt tonight. You can see the results in WBAYDN. Unreal. Best beer experience in this country.

Yeah? I think the beers are about as good as they get, but I dunno about the "experience" I guess. It isn't bad, but I suppose I prefer the atmosphere at plenty of other places. I don't think anyone is putting out better suds, though.

Hmm. I think that’s fair. The trappings are a little disjointed with the shared space and the industrial nature of it all. I think that everything associated with the beer itself...the faucets, the glassware, the attention to each pour, etc was stellar. I guess I put a heavy weight on the “beer” part of “beer experience.”

Yup, I think it just comes down to expectations and what you care about. I'd say the vast majority of breweries basically look and feel the same to me. Places like Andechs, New Belgium, Cantillon, Faessla, or even quirky places like Great Notion and the Eurayle House really stand out for me because of the atmosphere. Good beer is amplified by a fun atmosphere and so-so to bad beers are worse.
With Bierstadt, I don't really feel strongly one way or another. I very much prefer the look and feel of Prost, but the beer isn't usually even in the same ballpark.

    I'd be okay with that...
Every time I've been in they have been showing some movie from the 50's on TCM while playing something akin to Sublime.

Not a Colorado Lager but I’ve had a couple La Cumbre Oktoberfest’s and they are fantastic. It reminds me of Ayinger. Bright copper, malty, a little bit of dried fruit and a not too sweet.

Had WW keller pils 2.0 recently, I wasn't a fan. Seemed pretty disjointed overall. Hope a little time will bring the other 3 cans together.

I liked the first run of the killer pils, but around that time I got my first sixer of Von. Von is too much competition for WW, imo.

Possibly the best beer WW ever made was their Especial Mexican Kellerbier hybrid. I'd like to see them drop about 40 of their extract stouts and make more of that.

Fässla? I was agreeing until that one. Had a beer there a few weeks back, I would rather across the street or at Schlenkerla. We all have our favorites.

Their beers aren't my favorite, but they're there because they double as an inn. The family that runs the place is super nice and were happy to let me see how everything is run. When you stay there they give you this old school medieval looking key that seemingly opens every large door in the building. Beer-wise I'd say they're probably middle of the pack at best, though. Spezial is similar, but I haven't actually stayed there in spite of trying twice.

Oh, didn't think of the rooms. The beers are OK, the clientele can be a little dodgy.

We stayed at Special a couple of times. The new rooms may be nice, but we have been leaning to staying longer stvairB&B's.

LOL, I definitely know what you mean about the clientele. On my last visit it was pretty busy with a mostly working class (but clearly employed) crowd. On previous visits you'd see the same dozen or so guys hanging out drinking alone all day long. Plenty of other people came and went, but those sketchy dudes never left the main foyer area. Never seen anything like that crew anywhere else in south Germany. I don't really think they're a threat or anything (my wife didn't care) but I suppose they are a knock on the place. Beer-wise, on my first visit I'd say the pils flat out wasn't particularly good. Not just compared to Keesmann, but just in general. On later trips everything has been solid, though. I don't think they're the best at anything, but they have had at least 3 solid beers.
