I still prefer Bierstadt Hell vs. Slow Pour in nearly every circumstance. The unsung hero is the dunkel, though. It's Munich-legit and there are almost no other authentic versions available in CO. At least not regularly. We only even get one import (Ayinger) to boot.

I also think that the Bierstadt Dunkel is the best year-round beer they have, although I drink mostly Slow Pour on draft

It's my fave, too. I'm not a huge pils guy, although I do appreciate one on occasion. I also like the smaller size in the instances where I'm driving, too.

Had that Gottscheer yesterday at Bierstadt. Damn that was good. And then went to Wild Provisions and now that is my favorite place ever. Really nice Czech lagers there. I'm going to drink a lot of the Premium Pale.

This Half Dark Lager from Wild Provisions is unreal!! Fantastic on tap and in cans. It's like an amber but lighter and livelier with the saaz hops. I'm also picking up some very light tartness to it. And it drinks easy. If you don't try it this fall you're missing out.

I need to try October Rust for the name alone. That might be my favorite album of all time.

I had myself a nice big mug o' Rust over the weekend and it was damn delicious. Would that TRVE were closer, I'd be drinking a LOT more of it this season.

Posted this in the regular forum, but thought people here would like to know: I scored a 4 pack of Paulaner Pils at Total Wines Centennial. $6.75, brewed 9/07. Won’t have one til this weekend but glad to see how fresh and cheap it is.

That Paulaner Pils is a weird one. They don't really drink pils much in Munich. 3 of the 6 breweries make one, but they're mainly for export to the northern part of the country or abroad. Paulaner pulled the plug on theirs maybe 6-7 years ago (it's still absent from their websites), but something made them bring it back. That's in spite of helles being more popular than ever and pils sales falling off a bit. It's just a weird winding road for an unusual beer to return to the US. Either way, it's still a good beer and isn't quite as dry or hoppy as Jever or Radeberger.

Not exactly a lager, but Bierstadt and Novel Strand did a collaborative altbier that NS is selling. Haven’t tried it but thought it might pique some interests.

Altbier - interesting! It's kinda/sorta a lager. Hopefully they'll sell it in stores, too. Altbier might be the style the US has totally whiffed on the most. The stuff available here vs. Duesseldorf is night and day different. I'm convinced most US examples are based on sticke or doppelsticke by mistake.

Have you had Seedstock's Dusseldorf Alt? They are a brewery I keep meaning to try but never seem to get around to.

I have. It's one of the rare good ones, although still not quite there. Definitely in the ballpark, though. Seedstock is a really good spot, so it's worth a visit either way. Alts just aren't one of those styles US brewers nail. Dry Dock made a really good one 4-5 years ago, Prost's was good when Bill was there, and CB & Potts Littleton actually had a killer one back in the day. Grimm Brothers has won all sorts of awards for theirs, but it tastes weird to me. The only top notch common example in the US I've had is probably from Olde Meck in Charlotte.

I think Finkel & Garf American Lager is solid.

Haven’t heard anyone mention Crafty Lager from Red Truck. Grabbed a 12 pack for like $11 earlier, canned 10/13/2020.

Its damn good... quite similar to Colorado Lager. Wish I had tried it this summer though lol

I'm way late in finally trying it, but October Rust from TRVE is really good. I like the description of "new festbier" and feel that's appropriate. It has an herbal and toasty back-end that feels appropriate, but isn't in other beers of that style.

I also bought a 4-pack of their red oak mixed-culture lager, Sunken Stars. Haven't tried it yet, but it sounds pretty unique.
