When did that drop? I've been looking, I drink the hell out of that beer every year. Ayinger bavarian pils got me all sidetracked. ..

I've seen it in liquor stores in Boulder since last Friday or so. Had my third bottle today and had to rave about it. Light in color but with a nice, rich maltiness coupled with a bigger hop punch than I expected from the Hallertau hops. Super satisfying and refreshing.

Prost has definitely upped their game in the last year or two. I really liked their pale bock last year, too. The house beers they make for the Rheinhaus are also quite good.

One of my absolute favorites of the year in 2016 and I just picked up a sixer last night. I guess I've got my Friday night beer picked out!

Not on the level of the Prost, but I did quite enjoy the Grist collaboration beer called "Skiing in Jeans." It's a bock with some CO honey and TX pecans, but I think the natural malt sweetness is still the star without being overpowered by the adjuncts.

Grimm Brothers Maibock was always a winner.

Now that I don't work there any more I can say without a hint of self-promotion that the Backcountry Doppelbock is one of the best I've had from a US, let alone Colorado, brewer. Should be available now or very soon at the brewery in Frisco and on draft at whatever accounts Tivoli manages to get it to, besides their own taproom. If you have a craft beer bar and Tivoli hasn't pitched this to you yet, you should ask them to.

It will be poured at Tivoli's "Buckfest" on April 28, along with a long-time old-school Colorado favorite I haven't tasted yet this year, Backcountry Maybock. I'm pretty sure this is still @biking4beer's recipe, unchanged.

Had Bierstadt's Helles for the first time this weekend and man it was tasty. Could see myself crushing a lot of those this summer.

Bierstadt hell is about as close to a Munich-style lager as you'll find in the US. If I can manage to get my hands on a super-fresh bottle I hope to do a comparison with Augustiner at some point.

Do you ever see Augustiner Lagerbier Hell around? I can only ever find Edelstoff.

Nah, they don't send that one. We only get Edelstoff and Maximator and they're rarely very fresh out this way. I'll hopefully lug a few bottles back next time I'm over that way.
Probably the closest things we get are the Andechser Vollbier and HB Original when fresh shipments roll into town. Thanks to HB's green bottles, you're probably going to have to invest in a full case to make sure they haven't gotten lightstruck, too.

@Domingo do you know of any local substitutes for ayinger Bavarian Pilsner? My wallet would be greafull!

I found some Hacker-Pschorr Munchner Gold brown bottles recently that were pretty fresh. Not as good as the Augustiner or Andechs, but a good substitute all the way over here.

Got a sixer of Tivoli's pilsner last week, and it didn't last long.

I still need to try that beer. I was going to buy some last week but got distracted and forgot.
In general, Bavarian pils is less dry and more bready than the northern examples. Not quite a Helles, but somewhere in between. I know Zwei's very specifically claims to be south German so it would be one...even if it's pretty unusual outside of FoCo. The last time I had a Prost Pils it was kinda headed that way. Bierstadt's is probably way too dry. I wonder if we still get Spaten pils. It should fit the bill and they Julian date so you can check if they're old.

I always forget about H-P. No clue why. Nothing wrong with Münchner Gold at all! Paulaner's is the only one I don't love and that seems to only apply to bottles.

Prost pils is pretty dry in comparison, spaten doesn't hold a candle either. I'll have to check out Zwei now. I guess there's worse problems to have. Thanks for the input.

Where, if you don't mind saying? (You could pm me if you do!)

Ps I also like the Backcountry Pilsner which is only rated at 82, incredibly underrated IMO on this site, and which I assume is your recipe...miss getting that one for free...

Zwei's is tough to beat. I need to do a blind back-to-back with theirs and Bierstadt. I love both so much.

Prost's is definitely drier and more bitter, but I love that, too. Their keller pils is really nice, too.

If y'all haven't had Cold from TRVE, that shit is legit, too.
