Favorite extras to send out

I'm not sure I could have stated this any better. I try to "double up" the trade at a bare minimum. If he traded for 3 beers, I send 6. Sometimes I have only a bigger box and have to send a ton of beer. It happens, sorry. I try to stick with local/regional IPAs and cool stouts, but also enjoy dropping junior whalez/limited stuff in boxes as well, especially if it's a regular trade partner or friend.

 

I tend to send a bomber from Westbrook or Foothills, and then drop a few local cans in as well (Gose, WBIPA, Hop Drop, etc). My rule of thumb is I always fill the box, and if I think the trader has been fair dealing or if it's a regular trading partner, I'll throw something rare in to try to get a holy shit out of them.

 

I tend to add a lot of shorts extras. Anything I can do to help spread the word on how awesome Shorts is.

since i don't trade anymore and just send boxes back and forth with regulars, everything is an extra!

 

Shorts and Odd Side, absolutely.

 

When in season, Surly Bitter Brewer. Nobody is happy to see it, but everybody enjoys it way more than expected and would be totally down with getting a bunch more. Kind of the point of extras, right?

Central Waters barrel aged beers are great throw ins too, but they have massive infection issues this year.

I agree Short's is the consummate extras brewery, especially with the huge number of beers they will bottle this yearm.

 

Only Peruvian Morning has infection issues that I'm aware of. The Brewers Reserve series is absolutely fine. (and I agree, they're awesome extras)

 

Well, one lot of Bourbon Barrel Stout (#36513) was infected. When I heard that, PM was already in the crapper and I stopped gathering CW beers for the year, save for a 4 pack of BBBW.

I'll usually try to send a bottle from the other persons want list if I have access to it, then I'll fill up the box with Troegs scratch beers, Flying Mouflan, Voodoo BBVD, DuClaw Hell on Wood, and other locals that seem to match their style preferences that aren't distributed to them.

 

I'm with you guys and couldn't have said this better myself. The "shock and awe" factor is always in the back of my mind when packing a box.

 

Modern Times cans...So far everyone was pretty satisfied with them.

 

I buy a case of something just to give as extras, now its Sierra Nevada Narwhal, not a lot came to Chicago, so the people like it. Before that it was Founders Backwoods Bastard. Next case is Central Waters Bourbon Barleywine, If I can land it.

It also depends on the beer, I traded a Pipeworks BA Smoked Porter, Bach 1. I also had extra Pipeworks glasses. So I had to throw that on top of the other extras.

 

You must be a helluva trader. I build trades around shorts, you use them as extras. We should trade some time, lol.
