Best Oktoberfest I've ever had, did a blind tasting a few years ago and posted the results in the old long lost forum!

Hacker is very good but Ayinger is extraordinary!

Fall means maybe a few less weizenbocks and a few more stouts (not necessarily corresponding with when they were originally released)! Now I find a few more KBS & Parabola bottles in the fridge along with some FBS & Speedway.

    1. CCB Good Gourd
    2. Weyerbacher's
    3. Pumking
    We tried about 10 diff.

We've got a little nickname around here for Pumpkinhead and that's Blumpkinhead. While I know many will disagree with me on this and I don't mean any offense to the brewery, that beer is an utter disappointment and garbage in my opinion. Clove and allspice DON'T qualify as a "pumpkin beer"- DFH got it right, Weyerbacher did too, along with Brooklyn and Otter Creek for god's sake. I like the approach Rock Art used, nice fresh spruce tips with a subtle and smooth pumpkin undertone.

Is there a 'right' pumpkin beer? In my mind DFH and Pumpking are opposite beers. I can drink a couple pours of DFH and can handle, but enjoy, maybe 8-10 ounces of Pumpking. The Rumpkin on the other hand, great shit!! My wife and I split a 12 oz. of that one, with it's 17% ABV. Such a broad genre/style/beer

Having my first Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin right now and it is a really good beer, I was lucky enough to score a couple of 4 packs.... We usually get very limited Weyerbacher distribution around here, only a case made it to the area. That being said I still prefer my old favorite Tyranena Painted Ladies Pumpkin spice. Next it is a tie between Pumking and Weyerbacher.... But I do like the 4 pack format way more then the bomber format. I got 2 bombers of Pumking drank 1 and have 1 left..... I got 2 4 packs of Weyerbacher Imp. Pumpkin drank one and have 7 left:slight_smile: now that is more like it!

I would say that Good Gourd takes the top spot with Oaked Jacked Pumpkin not far behind. Weyerbacher is close along with Pumking. Havent had Schlafly yet but hoping to get some this year. St Arnold is also pretty good. The best one I had last year was local for Lavery in Erie PA, Stingy Jack. Very nice. I have a mixed sixer I just picked up with the regular Uinta pumpkin, the Terrapin, the Elysian Night Owl, a Wild Onion Pumpkin, and a couple regional with Fegleys, and DuClaw, which is an Oktoberfest but still looking forward to it.

I have not. I'm pretty one dimensional on pumpkin ales. Other than Schalfy's most I've tried are way too sweet for me. I'll look for that one though...Thanks and cheers!

I wish I could pluralize words like Parabola and speedway ha. I can however start busting out some KorbinianS and FBS...S and AventinusS, and of coarse more Ayinger OctoberfestS! The are a good amount of decent - awesome festsout there but Ayinger is just.... so amazing! Case of Pumking!?!? Fall and winter are the two seasons I don't mind beer seasons being 2 months shorter than regular seasons.
