Their Woods series, which are all sour beers, are quite good.

Founders makes the best Fall seasonals. Nothing compares to the combo of FBS, Harvest and Backwoods Bastard. Way better than anything with Pumpkin or Octoberfest in its name.

Does anyone have any good suggestions for pumpkin ales?

As of my count this season I have tried 35 pumpkin beers and many of them duds but some being great. MY top picks would be: Dogfish Head Punkin, Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin, Cigar City Good Gourd, Schlafly Pumpkin Ale, Heavy Seas The Great'er Pumpkin, Elysian Night Owl.. the list goes on and on

I don't have much enthusiasm for most pumpkin beers I've tried; I don't like the pie-like spicy flavors that feature so strongly in many of them and make them seem like dessert beers.

Not surprisingly, Cambridge Brewing's Great Pumpkin is my favorite, in that the mild flavor of the seasonal gourd balances a small amount of accompanying spice flavors.

    Go to Oktoberfest: Sam Adams
Go to Pumpkin: Shipyard Smashed Pumpkin

My roommates and I are planning on trying as many as we can during our senior year of undergrad - answer will probably change!

    Anchor Brekle's Brown
    Theakston's Old Peculier
    Any English style Pale/bitter

I have a hard time respecting people who drink pumpkin beers. I know it is wrong, but I just do. If you drink pumpkin beer and dislike the Stone Roses I might even punch your neck.

When the weather gets cooler, windier rainier (etc...) I feel like drinking UK style session beers such as a mild or a bitter, even an irish stout.
I could go for a few pints of oktoberfest too.
I don't really like pumkin beers or most of the spiced beers but that's personnal taste. Pumkin beers taste like thanks giving (pumkin pie) to me but not really like fall. Same thing with a christmas spiced beer: it tastes like spiced/ginger cookies when a barley wine or an imperial stout SCREAMS winter.

I prefer not to fall when drinking my beer, it creates a mess. But for me, fall (autumn) is that gateway to the dark beers, which I anticipate, so I just generally glide from crisp summer beers and IPAs directly into the dark stuff. Usually old ales, barleywines and stouts. That first gateway or transitional beer for me is something like Lower de Boom or Bigfoot.

I'm drinking a Tumbler right now, and even if I wouldn't say it's my favorite fall beer (what does that mean anyway...) I can see why it has been mentionned a few times in the thread. It is a really well made beer, ballanced, easy drinking etc... You get some malt, some caramel, some roast, a hint of smoke, some bitterness and some hop flavor but it doesn't feel like every element is trying to fight the others to get in the front. Maybe ends a little sweet, but a solid beer to my taste.

Oktoberfests, Munich Hellessss for season transition/early fall. Mid fall I'm still drinking Oktoberfests heavily, with some dunkels and the occasional DFH Punkin, Rogue Farms (fka Chatoe Rogue), and maybe a Pumking. Late fall I'm transitioning into porters, stouts, dubbels, doppelbocks, and getting ready for winter drinking season, or "the Show"...

Beyond the various harvest beers, I'm a big fan of Peak's Fall Summit. A nicely hopped beer with a full body. Perfect for football and cooler weather.
