I have lately been enjoying German-style beer. My two favorites are alt and kolsh. I think U.S. brewers are doing excellent work with creating German beers. I recently had a Full Sail alt which was good, and St. Arnold has a delicious kolsh. What are your favorites, be they U.S. or German?

    Just about anything from:
    Weihenstephaner
    Ayinger
    Schneider
    Hacker-Pschorr
    Schlenkerla

I was also pleasantly surprised by the Maisel's Weisse not too long ago.

I like Pilsener Urquel and various German hefeweizens quite a bit.

In my area Long Trail Ale at $7-$8 a six pack is unbeatable as an alt. I love that brew and when fresh at the brewery it's a real treat.

Well when I been in Germany I always think they make better beer in the styles they invented than we do. Shipping is NOT kind to beer.

Well, this is a list of German beers available in the U.S. I'm sure there are quite a few beers available in Germany that are on par with these, and even these beers would be infinitely better at the source.

Weihenstephaner Kristall and Original, Warstiner Dunkel, and Hacker-Pschorr Oktoberfest are fantastic. I mean i left off Celebrator, Aventinus, and Ayinger Brau Weisse as well.

Weihenstephaner Korbinian is the be all end all of German beer, in my humble opinion.

Sorry man, I don't know. If they do check out Double Bag as well, that's a stronger version of the regular Long Trail Ale. I knocked back a few of those while tailgating for the Iron Maiden show I was at on Tuesday. It was an entire night of awesome.

My favorite styles are probably Hefenweizen and Munich Helles, also love a good marzen.

    Paualaner/Franzikaner hefenweizen are great.
Augustiner Helles is maybe my favorite lager ever.
Theres a wealth of decent marzens/oktoberfests

Have to give some love to Olde Mecklenburg, a local brewery here in Charlotte that brews German-style beer in accordance with the Reinheitsgebot. Everything they brew is incredibly fresh and to style. If you're ever in the Charlotte area, seek them out.

Aside from that, I drink a lot of Aecht Schlenkerla -- can't get enough of the smoke.

From Germany (that we can get in the US), I’m a big fan of Mahr’s, Weihenstephaner, and Ayinger…although as long as the bottles are fresh pretty much anything is good.
My favorite styles are dunkel, helles, kellerbier, and doppelbock.
Over here in the US I’m finding that my favorite German-style beers are from small local breweries. I’m guessing some of it is freshness related, but I’m noticing more smaller places taking those styles seriously. In the past I think everyone was trying to rebel against “fizzy yellow beer” by going in the opposite direction. Now brewers are realizing how good it can be when made well.
