Porters are supposed to be gulping beers. I once sat with a supervisor in the a hotel bar in Moses Lake, Washington and drank eleven Black Buttes. So you certainly aren't wrong.

 

Steel Reserve for sure if I want a quick cheap buzz. I can down a 24 oz. can in under 8 seconds. More sold on Sam Adams Boston Lager since Yuengling wasn't available here until recently.

 

I was going to say this, but then I got to thinking in terms of beers that go down easily. I will usually finish a Belgian tripel or quad way too quickly. It's unintentional, but I can't help it. It's like eating Oreos.

 

Closest I get to a "gulping" beer is Grapefruit Sculpin from the can...

It just drinks so fast...

 

Whatever isn't "over-the-top-hoppy or super-boozy."

 

8 seconds! I need to step my game up! I think the last time I did it was around 12-15 seconds.

Thats like saying taking a bong hit is just like smoking a joint really fast...or something...

 

Sam Adams Nirto Coffee , at first , I hated it because it tasted like creamy coffee water , now , I enjoy it because it tastes like creamy coffee water........ Can gulp down 4 with a Sunday brunch , no problem.

 

For me, the really hoppy, crisp and dry pales tend to disappear quicker than most. Zombie Dust, PseudoSue, Lizard King and Daisy Cutter all come to mind.

I've also noticed beer with an exceptionally nice aroma will go a little quicker than normal. Since I'm already there, holding it up to my nose, might as well take a sip. Why waste the movement?

 

Wait a minute. You mean to tell me there's beer in Grapefruit Sculpin???

 

Tuborg. And many German pilsner beers. When sparkling, fresh en not too high in alcohol.

Had this one recently, it was gone way too fast. One of the best Session IPAs I can think of from the top of my head.
