Do any of you brew with apps? I'm looking to use one either on iPad or iPhone. Beersmith and iBrewmaster seem to be front runners. I'm interested in all feedback!
If you have the iOS excel app, BrewCipher will run in that. BrewCipher itself is free, and it's the one I recommend. But it's also mine, so don't just go by me. ETA: A quick googling seem to indicate that the iOS Excel app is also free. But I can't swear to it, as I'm allergic to apples.
I use Brewtoad to check gravities and IBU readings. I should d/l BrewCiper really soon, as VikeMan usually does a good job of keeping me in line on the forum.
Thanks for all the advice so far. Currently I'm looking at true stand alone iOS apps (specifically iPad) vs websites and other programs.
What's the difference between opening the Excel App on iOS or Sheets on Android, then maneuvering the spreadsheet, as opposed to opening another app and maneuvering within it? I've tried numerous apps on Android and haven't like them. I had beersmith and dropped that fast as it wasn't that user friendly and wouldn't account for whirlpool hops. I also like running BrewCipher as I can start and work on it in Google Sheets, save it, go home work on it, back to work, back home, on my phone, on my tablet, on my tasting room comp, and always have it move across devices.
The difference is I only have access to an iPad or iPhone. Why not look for something that has been created and optimized for these platforms?
I could be wrong, but AFAIK there haven't been any brewing apps specifically designed for iOS. i.e. porting is the order of the day.
It looks like you stumbled upon the next million dollar idea! As more people move to mobile devices and craft brewing expands, a legit app becomes more valuable.
I've been using brewersfriend.com which I like but felt it lacked features. Started using BrewCipher and throughly enjoy how comprehensive it is. Well done @VikeMan
