I am not a big fan of hops. However, I do enjoy an occassional hop forward beer. Lately it's revolved around five IPA's really and they are :

    Bells Two Hearted
    Ithaca Flower Power
    Loose Cannon Hop3
    Stone Go To IPA
Stone Enjoy By aka Stone Quarterly or So

New Holland Mad Hatter IPA at 5.25% fits the bill. I don't consider beers < 5% abv IPAs.

Stone Go To IPA and Victory's Nineteenth Anniversary are two session IPAs that I liked.

It's 2015 now. Not all pale ales are IPAs. APA is a different style. SNPA is an APA.

Another vote for Fathead's Sunshine Daydream, but Lakefront's Extended Play is also nice.

They are all Pale Ales of course. There exists a spectrum along which different manifestations of the style appear. But where a generic PA becomes an APA or an IPA is entirely a matter of opinion. There isn't any set of rules or even a way of laying down consistent rules to decide what sort of PA you're drinking.
There have been many beers labelled IPA over the last 100 years (long enough to be firmly established ) which are of session strength and not crammed with hops.[IMG]

Agreed. Pinner is not getting enough love right now IMO, especially considering it is 4.9%. I didn't even realize it was a session the first time I had it, as it was on draft and didn't list the ABV.

Pale Ales, under which the vast majority of hoppy beers under 6% fall, are a different style from IPA's for sure. Although these days the "session ipa" craze has blurred the lines between the two.

Personally if I'm drinking a beer that's under 6.0 it's definitely not going to be a hoppy beer of any kind because they pretty much all suck. All the ones readily available here at least.

IPAs are merely one sort of Pale Ale. That's what the PA represents. At one time it was termed "Pale Ale as prepared for India"
There are many sub 6% IPAs available here worthy of note. As I say, this is the strength which made IPAs famous in the first place, it can be done.

I hear ya, but I'm not talking about the past, I'm talking about right now, in the United States. They are two distinct styles and are judged as such. Sure there is some crossover between the two, but in general sub-6% beers are not IPA's and if they are they are not good ones (session ipa's).

Look at the top-100 American IPA's on here and see how many are sub-6%, it's like 3 or 4. Then look at the same thing for American Pales, it's the vast majority.

I haven't had many worthy IPA's 6% or under but here are my two:

    Dogfish Head 60 Minute
    Samuel Adams Latitude 48

It's not the past , simply that Pale Ale is the overarching family in which IPAs are a subset. Like there are dogs and there are poodles. You are saying that because not all dogs are poodles then poodles aren't dogs.
