What are your favorite KC breweries for on-site consumption or carryout? Preference to hoppy and BA dark beers. Also, preference to proximity to the Midtown area, but definitely willing to travel for great beer. Also open to suggestions for bottle shops and great places to eat in this area as well. Thanks!!
Alma Mader on SW Boulevard/26th St BKS on Holmes/63rd Bier Station has taps and a bottle shop on Wornall-ish/Gregory EDIT: I'll add City Barrel in the Crossroads. Good hoppy beers in a super cool space with a full kitchen doing upscale bar food.
It's not a brewery, but Oak & Steel (17th & Wyandotte) has four local IPAs and two local stouts on tap right now (and their tap selection is great overall). For midtown bottle shops, Mike's and Gomer's are your best bets. As far as food goes...well, you have lots of options. To make it a bit easier and brewery-focused, I recommend Torn Label (also in the Crossroads, and just moved into a larger space with a full kitchen) and if you are planning on hitting up Boulevard, the small plate selections they have are also quite good.
I haven't been on a tour since they moved to their larger (and much nicer space), but as I have recently had food and cocktails in their basement lounge, I'm sure a J. Rieger tour will check those boxes quite nicely.
Any updates after your trip? I am heading in this weekend and had a lot of the same questions. Seems like there are a lot of breweries in the Crossroads district but don't see a lot of reviews for them.
