Those of us that really enjoy a well crafted Red IPA often wonder why the style doesn't get more
appreciation in terms of ratings (especially considering individual style). On a local level, Foley Brothers new for 2015 Parley seasonal Red was outstanding in terms of a hop forward offering, which is the style I prefer.
On a national distribution level, the new Stone Pataskala Red X IPA is an outstanding offering if you enjoy the hop forward style. While not new, Fatheads Bonehead Imperial Red IPA deserves honorable mention as well. What are your new favorites?

Although not listed as a red, Manayunk Baby Got Hops looks the part and is very good. Mosaic hops really shine here!

Not new but OB G'Knight has always been a favorite of mine, as has Odell Red.

Possible stupid question here. What differentiates a red IPA from any other one? Is it simply the color? Many IPAs have a red/amber tint to them that don't say red on the label. Is this just a marketing thing?

Toaster Pastry and Flipside made me realize how great a red IPA could be.

Yes, it's the color and the red IPAs I have had carry a ruby reddish look to them. I enjoy this style and think that the malts really balance out the hops more so than most regular IPAs; Flying Fish's Red Fish is one of my favorites.

I like Flipside, but it doesn't really look all that different from Torpedo. It's not an exact science I guess. Cheers!

I love Red IPAs and wish Bell's would re-release This One Goes to Eleven. That shit blew my mind. To answer the tread I really like Alesmith's My Bloody Valentine. Nice use of hops.

It isn't an actual style. A touch of roasted barley and maybe carared is added to the malt bill, which obviously impacts the character a little, but it is basically an IPA that looks more red.
The defining characteristic is that the brewery decided to name it a red IPA.

You might be interested in knowing that Stone Pataskala Red X IPA uses as its base malt Best Malz Red X malt.
