Hey y'all, big supporter of NJ beer. Just wanted to get everyone's thoughts on what they think is the best DIPA brewed in NJ. I'm partial to Exit 16 myself. Just think it is off the charts drinkable with an awesome hop character.

All are really good though and showcase how good our beer scene is getting/already is.

Overhead end thread. Not only is it my hands down favorite dipa from NJ, but it is also in my top 5 overall.

Really? I love Overhead but I find it a little too heavy compared to the other two.

Head High, on the other hand, is perfect. Overhead is just a little too much mouth feel wise.

Just had it for the first time somehow last week, I was really quite impressed with it! It's my kind of DIPA.

Overhead. one of my favorite DIPAs period. 077XX is solid too but I like the hop profile of Overhead more. all the bottles of Exit 16 in my area are several months old. when I had a two month old bottle of Exit 16, it didn't taste great.

out of curiosity, have you ever had Heady Topper, Gandhi-Bot, or Abrasive?

Me too. Citrusy Hoppy Goodness. Overhead is just a bit too astringent for me. Head High is excellent though.

Hmm, maybe because everyone has their own preference?

I don't think exit 16 gets nearly as much credit as it deserves in this convo. 077 is nice. Real easy drinker. And tbh, I don't see overhead on tap with any regularity whatsoever so I really can't comment. But I'll grab some tomorrow at the brewery.

I guess I don't really feel like choosing. Just wanted to give flying fish a little credit for that one good beer that they make.

    really like Exit 16

to me though, Overhead is world-class, right there with the best in the class (that get a LOT more attention). if Overhead was readily available in say, 5-7 states in 4-pack 16 oz cans, it would be a top 5 rated DIPA in existence

I've done a blind test with them during a NJ beer week at Gusto's in EB and exit 16 was my favorite. Try a blind taste testing and you'll be surprised.

Have had Heady Topper, don't care for it that much. Haven't had the other two.

that's what I suspected...as I find Overhead's flavor profile, body & mouthfeel to be very similar to those 3

Yeah, I'm more of a Pliny guy. I like DIPAs that are 'light' and 'bright'. And it's not that I don't like Overhead, I do, I'd just rather the brighter flavor and lighter body of Head High if the option is there.

Can't I just love them all? Most of all I'd say Carton, but that's because its more available to me than OH/HH. Exit 16 is awesome, but not quite as much as the other 2

    Interesting. I tend to find:
Overhead more on the bitter side of the fence
Ghandi Bot and Abrasive in the tropical arena
    Heady more orange/citrus

I actually think Head High is more similar to these three in profile than Overhead..especially Ghandi Bot. Palates are funny things.
