Pale Ales were never my favorite style and most I felt lukewarm about...I enjoyed them, but nothing special. However I started revisiting them and my feelings have completely changed and they seem to be great for when you want some hops, but not an assault like an IPA/DIPA can give. Also, the ABV is typically lower so great for session-ing. This style seems to be making a bit of a comeback, and I am all for it. And another cool thing about PAs is that much like IPAs, each beer can be so different from the next.

Some great choices in this thread and give Sam Adams Crystal Pale Ale a try, I wasn't expecting much at all but was really surprised by it and enjoyed it a lot.

My go to is a local St. Terese's from Highland Brewing

But Zombie Dust is probably the best Pale Ale I have had (although it drinks with more intensity than any "pale ale" I have ever had, I have always thought of it as more of an IPA without the I. Whatever they want to call it its damn good. If its a Pale Ale according to them then my defense rests.

I can see it: people complain about the change, and they switch it back to the "original" recipe (but this time, using hop extract), and call it "classic pale ale".

SN pale ale! Ubiquitous and cheap with a great amount of flavor! The best way to drink it is chilled down to just below freezing. Fantastic!

Sorry didn't read the whole thread but I think the whole flavor profile has generally gravitated to more hops.
I love SN but the hop profile even on that classic brew leans towards a hoppier style. If we are talking classic English style Im thinking Bass, Fullers and Sam Smith. Apa Im thinking SN, Dales, Mo. The list goes on.......
