    Gonna give a shout-out to a nearly unknown pilsner: Pony Pasture Pilsner from Lickinghole Creek.

    Shame it was a brewery-only release (that, and it was exclusively in 750s), because LC nailed it spectacularly.

    Just had some Keesmann Bamberger Herren Pils brought over from the brewery. Really nice beer.

    Had a recent bottle of Sunburst Pilsner from Inveralmond that was corking recently. it's more a czech style one, better than it has been in the past imo, from what I can remember. They used to do it on cask too so I'm going to look out for it in that form

    Also had a pint of Tipo Pils earlier in the year that was sublime, a really well put together beer

    And I actually enjoyed Sharp's Cornish Pilsner a lot, despite it lacking any sort of hop bitterness it went really well with the seafood based meal I had with it

    So far, this year, Julian Price Pilsner from Wedge Brewing in Asheville takes top honors. A bit on the sweet side, but an excellent easy drinking pils, um, if your ever in the Asheville Area.

    I just had a style of pilsener beer yesterday called svetly lezak. It was St. Lawrence Brewing Company's Barn Stormer "Bohemian" Pilsener. This czech style of beer is sometimes served cloudy, unfiltered and has new wort mixed in. When I saw the color I automatically assumed that it was the wrong color. It wasn't. What prompted me to research and find out about this variation on the pilsener is that the beer was so fantastically good tasting. This was a cheerful beer and I definitely want more.

    BTW - pilsner or pilsener?

    In the US, either is acceptable. And, if you can't decide, there is always just "pils".

    Or, just avoid it all with "Bohemian style lager"...

    Maria,

    You might enjoy reading the below linked article. An extract from that article:

    “I started with the house Svetly Lezak (A light lager beer, what the US incorrectly calls a Pilsner. If it’s not from Plzen, it’s not a Pilsner). And I was reminded quickly that what we view as monolithic beer style country (light colored lagers all tasting the same) is really a country that has a wide interpretation of each beer style. This Svetly Lezak screamed of individualism, with a complex malt and assertive hop profile. It also had, gasp, a fair bit of diacetyl, which is a common and expected part of the Czech lager profile. I liked the beer, not too sweet, not too dry, but right down the middle in terms of balance. The next beer up was the Polotmavy, but a stronger version (forgot the plato, but maybe 14 or so). A wonderful beer, but certainly not a session beer. But much to learn from this beer, especially in the big, sweetish malt profile. I really loved this brewery, and the respect they have for tradition. They even ship their lagering barrels to Plzen to be re-pitched!”

    Cheers!

    If I could get it here in Pittsburgh (I'm looking at you @Sixpoint), The Crisp would replace Prima Pils as a staple in my fridge. I had a few when I was in OH a few months ago and it really impressed me. But since I don't, Prima Pils for German style and Summerfest and Noble Pils for Czech style.

    Thanks Jack. I loved this beer. It was malty and bold, it was definitely assertive in it's hops but that is what made it cheerful. I would say that it was even fresh tasting and a bit festive. Certainly one of the most unique pilsners I have had. I think that it is the addition of some new wort to the finished beer that gives it the color I thought was so wrong but that is also what makes it especially tasty. That also would account for the diacetyl.

    They are working on coming back into the Pittsburgh Market, see they were being canned at the Lion in Wilkes-Barre Pittsburgh distribution was a no brainer, but City Brewery out of La Crosse, WI bought on old brewery in Tennessee and they started on a new contract with them. Also they phased out the 16 cans I'm pretty sure all regular offerings are in 12 oz cans with six pack cardboard containers instead of the four pack pounders. I always thought the Crisp was great now it's better!

    I keep Konig in stock all year long for my pils centered friends and I always enjoy it too. Tried a few others and also liked Trumer Pils and the Beer Camp torpedo. Many others enjoyed, but these are my top.

    This year it was pretty much:

    Notch Session Pils all the time;
    Kulmbacher Edelherb when I could find it;
    Jever Pilsener a fair bit;
    Troegs Sunshine Pils a lot, in season;
    Berkshire Czech-style Pilsner oftentimes, in season;
    Jack's Abby Sunny Ridge while it lasted.

    Plus a bunch of others. Go pils!
