I loved this beer when it first came out, but have yet to try the "new" Crisp. By Americanized do you mean hoppier? And if so, Prima's level of hoppiness.....less....more?

If you're looking for Kulmbacher it's been on tap every time I've been to Row 34, and it drinks BEAUTIFULLY there. On draft at Row 34 it was easily in my top 5 best pilsners I've sampled this year.

Bought a six pack of Notch Pils in cans for the game this past Sunday. It had very bright citrusy notes I picked up more when I poured it into the glass. Delicious. Probably the beer I purchase most.

Hoppier with American hops, so nothing like Prima. Prima is by hopped but still distinctly German in flavor

The Crisp and Prima, not my favorite style right now so I stick with what I know I will enjoy when I do want a pils.

    Be gone you heathen!

I jockey back and forth each year. I love Stoudts, Prima, Sly Fox Pikeland and am falling in love with the New Crisp. We live in pils land here in PA, so we are lucky.

The one that SILL alludes me is the ever sought after Moonlight Reality Czeck. I need to try that one.

    Victory Dry Hopped Pils

Jack, I don't know if you have had an opportunity to try one of the Hop Ticket Beers offered by Victory called Dry Hopped Pils. It was available on draft this summer as well as was bottled and available in both 12-bottle and 24-bottle Summer Variety cases this summer. Oh, and these were 12-oz bottles. I have attached a link to the Victory website that provides details on this new brew.

I must admit it had a very mildly, but very pleasing hoppy, earthy flavor profile, including a hint of lemon. It also had that Victory-satisfying bone dry finish. I understand they used one of the experimental hops from Germany to dry hop the beer.

New to me this year was the New Glarus Two Women Lager. Very enjoyable example of a German Pilsener. Too bad it is only sold in Wisconsin.

Yes, I did drink the Victory Dry Hopped Pilsner earlier this summer. Below is a write-up I generated as part of a BA online conversation:

“I had my 2nd. Victory Hop Ticket Dry Hopped Pilsner last evening (6/2/14).

I am happy to report that the vegetal taste that I perceived previously (a week ago) is no longer present. It is my guess that the hexanol compound that creates a vegetal flavor has been ‘diminished’? Peter, is there a chemical pathway where hexanol is converted to another compound?

Below are my impressions of last night’s beer:

Appearance: Yellow/Gold with a white fluffy head

Aroma: The aroma is dominated by the hop aroma; I am unable to perceive any malt aroma. My first thoughts for describing the hop aroma was herbal but upon reading the beer label (which has the descriptor of “earthy” on it) I am thinking that earthy is a better way to describe the hop aroma.

Taste: Pretty much like the aroma: BIG earthy flavor from the hops with no perceptible malt flavor

Mouthfeel: Medium with a dry finish

Overall: I think the beer is OK. The beer is too one dimensional for my preferences. There is no perceptible malt aroma/flavor and the aroma/flavor from the hops does not taste very good to my palate. I have had many different kinds of Pilsners from Victory and this is my least favorite of the bunch.

I went to the Victory website and found:

    “Composition

    Malt: Imported two-row German malts

    Hops: Whole flower hops

    ABV: 5.5%

    Flavor

Earthy and thirst quenching, Victory's Dry Hopped Pils features bright hop aspects hinting of lemon and hay which combine with soft German malt notes for an integrated and refreshing finish that leaves you reaching for another.”

So, no mention of what hop(s) were used to make this beer. I did not perceive any bright or lemon in the beer, just earthy.

I would like to know which specific hops were used to make this beer; specifically which hop(s) they used for dry hopping.

    Cheers!

    Jack

For any Long Island people, just had a pilsner from Black Forest Brewpub and it was suprisingly delicious.

Not sure why, but the cans of New Belgium Blue Paddle Pilsner have really been hitting the spot lately.
