I don't know why, but I have never seen Live Oak Gold before in Houston. Beer Advocate has it listed as a rotating release, so maybe that is it, but I thought this was a year round in the Austin area. Anyway, saw for the first time today when at the store and had to pick it up. A German Pilsener at 4.1% ABV, I can drink this thing over and over, and over....

Just wrote a review, and find the score ridiculously under ratted. I guess I shouldn't be surprised though.

One of my favorites, I must have drank my weight in cask when I worked in the UK.

Cask in UK is one of the greatest things. My favorite cask beer, if I remember correctly, was Plum Porter brewed by Titanic.

Appreciate this but there is "definition creep"............"ah, it's only 5,5% ABV but I session it"
Just as you can race in any car, you can "session" any beer. But a racing car or a session beer are there by design and intention.Anything over 4% and you will be in ER after a proper session.

It's hard for me to session nearly any flavorful craft beer, even low ABV versions. Even great lagers, more than 2 pints of the same and I'm kinda burnt out.

If I wanted to sit down and drink more than a few beers I believe Weietephaner Hefe would be a great choice. Not all that high in Abv and interisting enough to not fatigue the palate. I would add that I hate the American versions of this style, but this one is spectacular.

That is because they are not session beers. A good one will invite you to drink another and another and each pint tastes better than the one before. You might find that you are enjoying it so much that you ignore whatever else is on the bar.

That's because the cask beers over there are awesome and easy to drink. We spent a morning in Edinburgh at the pubs and if we didn't have to go back to the ship, I would have stayed for the entire day.

I realize session beers are generally thought to be 4% or less, but there's not a lot on the shelf here to support that. I'm not drinking beers I don't like in volume to session it. It's even tough to expand that to 5 % and get past AALs. So I'll drink what I like of the lagers, Pils and Heffes, and settle for being responsible towards myself. I don't plan on drinking a 12 pack of anything and choking down a Founders All Day would be an impossible chore. This topic comes up a lot and I just think it's a ridiculous thing to begin with. I hate Bud Light but if yiu drink one less regular Bud your even or ahead, there's not many occasions I'm drinking more than 3 beers of anything. So... I drink what I like, I don't buy the fishing all day scenario and pounding a 12er of anything. My opinion right here.

Victory Prima Pils, Sixpoint The Crisp, Brooklyn Brewery Pilsner, and Hidden Sands 800-Foot Pils. Basically if you are going to go session just get a great pilsner or hoppy pilsner. Tree House Eureka (any variant) is great too, but that's not exactly readily available. Otherwise drink IPA's, sessions always lack the punch.

There honestly aren't that many in my area. Most are average (or heavily adjunct flavored) kettle sours, old UK and German bottles, "meh" session IPA's, and the rare attempt at a British mild.

In most instances I just drink the beers from Hogshead, Bierstadt, Zwei, or Dry Dock. They almost always have at least one killer legit session beer.

Easy to find: FW Easy Jack, OB Pinner (both under 5)
Not easy/regional: Founders All Day IPA/ Half Acre Tuna
Really not easy, and under 4% Revolution Brewing's "working man" mild beer, totally surprised me that it was just above 3% and tasted like actual beer.
    Good day to you!

If you drink fewer that six imperial pints, it isn't a proper session. And you shouldn't spend more than twenty minutes per pint.

These threads are getting better. At least most of the beers suggested have been under 5% ABV. In the past people regularly suggested beers over 7% ABV because the poster "Could drink more than one in a sitting".

To be fair, draught Guinness Extra Stout in the UK is below 4% ABV. And the bottles version, at just 4.2%, isn't that far off.

Ooo Fullers, not my thing. Then again bitters and cask ales are basically the bottom of my list so it's not really a Fullers thing.
