Best deal in sours, however, remains the Boon lineup. Their gueuze goes for 9.99 some places for a 750ml. Mariage Parfait I could get for about 12-14. Cuvee Renee is also ok.

Back in the day, Arctic Saison, the collab between Hill Farm and Anchorage, was pretty fantastic.

Cuvee Rene was $8 a 750 6-7 years ago and was a bargain at that price. It is much more than average and priced great. Today I do not know the cost. Not seen it in ages, I see the fruited beers.

I think Supplication is my favorite sour beer but I do like many others. Not into the rip your mouth open sour but the more subtle aged sour wilds. There are a few of the quick sours I enjoy but many are not good. It gets expensive so I dont buy often at all anymore.

    Enjoy

    How is the Mariage Parfait?
Ive had the Boon Gueuze and I enjoyed it. I paid $8.99 for the 750ml 2012/2013 bottle. The Mariage Parfait I can get for about 12.99 was wondering how it compared to the Gueuze.

Big difference between spontaneous fermentation and wild ales.

For me Barrel aged sours and coolship are the way to go!

What's the difference? I've always used them more or less interchangeably. I have wondered if spontaneous fermented beers had zero organisms added while wild ales were inoculated but also exposed to the native flora but have never known if that was true

Wild ales can use inoculation. Russian river inoculated but their beers are wild. Essentially if it 8s soured after the kettle with lacto pedio and brett it falls into the wild category.

I love all deGarde beer, but can you really go wrong with any stone-fruit sour?

    I gave MP a 4.65, the Gueuze a 3.78. Why?
It's kinda hard for me to put it into words. Personally, I would snag that 750 of MP. Without hesitation.

Hm, I always use the term "mixed fermentation" to refer to anything besides brewer yeasts. Sounds like another prime convergence of my twin passions of beer and semantics!

I love it personally. It's obviously a bit more assertive than the Gueuze, but it drinks pretty much like a gueuze on steroids. Not too tart, but a bit more full bodied and rounded. Hides its 8% extremely well, and it has all the rich copper and aged hop quality that makes Boon such an insane value. Definitely worth the price of admission.

I've had the Boon black label and thought it was surprisingly no more impressive than he regular gueuze. I also kinda like bright lambic as opposed to uber heavily oaked one.

Word. I miss Arctic Saison a lot. Having Boon widely available makes life easier when on a tight budget.

Then again, I live relatively close to Cellador, which makes finances a problem.

Great list....I forgot about Hudson Valley. They do very nice work. Regretfully I've only been able to enjoy two of their beers to date.

Would love to try Cellador, SARA and Floodland. Are all 3 in Cali? I know SARA is.

I feel you! I've been fortunate through work travel to hit HF usually twice a year for the past 6 years and always walk away with good barreled beer.

Recently I've been seeing 3F pop up here down South...I need to ask my local shop who their middle man is...we thankfully have it reasonably priced and most folks here don't seem to care for Wilds so I've grabbed a few over the past months.
