I guess Hunahpu made it big, but there seem to be a good amount of spiced stouts out there days using cinnamon, vanilla, cocoa nibs, and chilis/peppers. Mexican Cake, Prairie Bomb, Abraxas, Imperial Biscotti Decicco's Version (if that counts), and more.

What's your take on the style? Which ones are your favorites?

Hunahpu is still my favorite of the ones mentioned. Followed very closely by Bomb and Abraxas. Mexican Cake was awesome but the others are just a step above IMO. Haven't had Biscotti Decicco's yet. Oh and the style is fantastic, one of my favorites!

I was really impressed with Bomb! I find it rare for beers to live up to the hype that precedes them and this certainly did. I was happy to run out and hoard as much as I could while it was available.

Bomb! is the best of the bunch in my opinion.

Decicco's is great! I started Zwanze Day with that around 1030 am. I like Bomb too, but I'm not sure if it was better than Deccico's. I have an Abraxas I need to crak soon. No Mexican Cake or Hunahpu for me yet.

This is one style in particular that I greatly prefer barrel aged. With that being said, Red Wine Mexican Cake is my favorite of the ones I've been able to try.

ISO BA Abraxus and Pirate Bomb!

I'm a huge fan of the style!

    Some of my favs:
    1. Apple Brandy Huna
    2. BA Abraxas
    3. Apple Brandy Grande Negro Voodoo Papi
    4. Cali Brandy Huna
    5. Huna
    6. Bomb!

Still yet to try regular Abraxas and Mexican Cake or variants...

Speaking of that, I was literally thinking of doing my own (which caused me to make this thread as well).

I was thinking of getting some nibs, vanilla bean, cinnamon sticks, and chilis, pressing them into BCBS. Boom. Spicy stout.

My friend actually got a bottle of the Apple Brandy Voodoo at the release. He's bringing it home for Christmas, gonna enjoy that one!

Also, what is this "style" exactly called? They all seem to have pretty common ingredients, at very least the chili peppers, and then more. Just "spicy stout" is sufficient?

I would vote for Bomb! out of the popular/best ones. Although, BA Abraxas might have it beat.

An imperial stout. If we start sub-dividing stouts into ingredient combinations, heads are going to roll.

Haha, very true. Okay, we'll keep it simple. Next thing we want is another war. I'm sure there are vets who still remember the Battle of Porter and Stout.

    4. Prairie Bomb!

Mexican cake severly underwhelmed me, Clown Shoes luchador en fuego was pretty good, hoping to trade for deciccio IBB soon, and will be trying Pirate Bomb this weekend!

Mexican Cake is underrated & better than the rest of the non-barrel treated beers mentioned. Jack Daniel's Mexican Cake was orgasmo.

I loved Huna, but there wasn't much spice left in it when I had it. I think Cognac DL de Muerte is my favorite stout that had a big chilli flavour!

Still have a Huna to crack but I enjoy bomb! Much more than abraxas. The cinnamon in my bottle was overwhelming and was pretty much all you could taste. Slight chili but no other sweet flavors

Haven't had regular Bomb! but I have had Pirate Bomb! Somehow it was easier to trade for.
