My Lord, don't we sound like a bunch of cranky old men....

But I am with you. I'll go any time, but there is something special about my Sunday lunch date with my boys - pizza, lemonade for them, good beer for me, and the best seats on the patio. There is something about beer in the sun on Sunday that makes it all better.

I don't mind crowds so much at good beer bars. They are "good" for a reason, after all. I have, however, reached "that age". My one requirement - I don't want the music so loud that I can't talk to people.

Harrumph. "You kids - get off my lawn". "Back in my day...."

Nothing better than grabbing a newspaper, hitting a bar a quiet time and knocking down 13...14 beers while reading the paper....just kidding more like 2 or 3....I hate loud busy places...I just like to sit and enjoy the beer and read a little...I like drinking with friends too but I also enjoy a relaxing pint or two and the paper...

Don't get me wrong..I can adapt to a busy setting but this is what I prefer....

Sunday... after church gets out around noon we usually go to a bar downtown (where the church is located) and get food as well. Banger's (101+ taps) and Craft Pride (60 local taps) are popular choices and both have on-site food and are near food trucks as well that are open. Usually bars are completely dead around this time because everyone else is hitting up brunch places like non-heathens.

Motivates me to go to church... I think the wife knows this.

Opening time - that's when I know the beer will be at its freshest.

    Please stick to practicing this.

There is nothing more annoying than thinking that you are going to have a quiet session at the pub on a Sunday afternoon and a family of 5 then waltzes in there with 3 kids under 10. Ugh.

I want a spot at the actual bar, right in front of the taps. The less people blabbering on, drinking Stellas and taking up limited space at the actual bar, or playing board games the better.

The only time that happens at the local beer bar is after 12 am on a Monday or Tuesday night.

As father of two sons 10 and 12, it's very important to me that we change our behavior to fit the norms of the bar/pub, not the other way around. I should be able to enjoy a nice social brew in a public setting and so should people who don't want to hear kids or dodge them running around. Of course now that they are a little older, they just jab away at their electronic devices that they are allowed to have on this special occasion and ignore me in a very quiet way

Right at 5:00pm, when I can say "screw this," dash out of the office early, beat the crowds, have the place to myself and a like-minded friend or two, and wash down any silly guilt I feel about not returning that "important" phone call or email. I also hate a packed bar. It's hard to appreciate a good beer when you're standing on top of people.

McSorleys in NYC when they open on Sunday. It's an old-time old man corner bar. Awesome.

4:30pm is my usual go to time for drinking at bars. Unless I'm looking to tie one off and don't care what beer I'm drinking, then it's 10 am at the Tam.

I am in between, I don't want it standing room only, but I do want a lively busy environment. Nothing seems more boring to me than sitting around an empty bar sipping a beer, I could do that at home.

    Totally with you on this.

However if I visit a brewery, I like to have a slimmer crowed. I like having the one-on-one conversation with the brewers and bartenders

Depends what type of experience I want. Do I want to go and relax with a few friends and some good beer? If so, I go early in the evening. Do I want to get drunk, and basically party? I go later.

    Nowdays-When I get a babysitter.

But yea somewhere in between dead and packed, probably early evenings, I don't want to be the only patrons in a bar.

I like there to be a little bit of buzz in the bar, where I can actually hear conversation and have at least 4-5 good pieces of eye candy to ogle while I sip on my beer(s).

True but I will happily do this if there is sport on tv at the pub that I can't access at home.

Definitely prefer slow bars. More attentive bartenders, potential for good conversation, and, most importantly, quiet.
