It's a classic- here's hoping you get to try it some day. According to Seekabrew it's down to Georgia, so maybe Florida soon enough.

Another for Allagash. Not my favorite style but I could drink Allagash all day.

It's pretty new, but Monday Night FuMan Brew (Belgian wit with ginger) is pretty stellar.

Checking my ratings, the top 3 I've had are Allagash White (4.25), Wittekerke (4.25) and Weeping Willow Wit by Mother Earth Brewing at 4.23.

Lowly ones were Shock Top (2), Legend's Winter White (2.75) and one of the worst beers I've ever had goes to Sam Adams Imperial White (1.73). That was just a complete mess of a beer and I actually like most of Sam Adams offerings.

Hitachino Nest and St. Bernardus are both good ones. I love the fact that St. Bernardus seems to have a little bit of tartness to it.

Allagash is nice, but I was a little underwhelmed by it when I finally got my hands on a 4-pack several months ago. It tasted kind of like an American Pale Wheat Ale with a little bit of spice to it. I suppose I prefer my wits to be more aggressively spiced.

I actually really like Boulevard's ZŌN, which won bronze at this year's GABF in the Belgian-style Witbier category (and has medaled in that category before). However, I doubt many agree with me, seeing as how it's only got a 3.52 rAvg on this site.

Interesting to me is the fact that witbier doesn't seem like a terribly popular style on this site. Only eight of the "most popular" witbiers have an rAvg of > 4.00, and the number of total ratings for beers within the top 50 is pretty low. There are only 4 beers in the top 50 that have at least 1,000 ratings, and there are 31 beers that have fewer than 100 ratings.

I can't help but wonder if the ratings are lower across the board because people are reviewing to taste, rather than to style...

I agree wholeheartedly about the SA Imperial White being a mess of a beer. It was boozy and completely unbalanced--the only thing it had going for it was the appearance. The fact that it has a rating (3.48) pretty close to my beloved ZŌN (3.52) makes me suspect the witbier-rating capability of BAs :grinning:
