Last night we tasted Howe Sound Pumpkineater, Steamworks Pumpkin Ale and Phillips Crooked Tooth, and the preference was in that order. Does anyone have recommendations of even better local pumkin beers?

We also tried Lighthouse Pumpkin Ale which placed last. Lighthouse was thin, flat and sweet but Howe Sound was viscous, frothy with intense balanced flavours.

My personal preference in years past has been the Howe Sound Pumpkineater. It's delicious, spiced, and most of all for a pumpkin ale...Pumpkiny!!(oddly something that's missing from a lot of "pumpkin ales").

I tried the Parallel 49 Lost Souls Chocolate Pumpkin Porter last night and was pleasantly surprised. The chocolate was not overpowering in my opinion, and the spicy pumpkin was just enough to let you know what you were drinking. It did have a slight sour note as I often find with porters, but it was fitting to the style. Tonight with Thanksgiving dinner, we'll be drinking the Schadenfreude Oktoberfest Pumpkin Ale. Really looking forward to trying this!

Among those already mentioned, our fridge is stocked with the Steamworks (haven't had in a few years), Elysian Night Owl(US, I know), Tree Jumping Jack Pumpkin Ale, Vancouver Island Brewery Harvest Plow Marzen and Phillips Crooked Tooth (also one of my faves from years past). Sharing amongst all of the family, this should make for a spicy, malty beer tasting.

Granville Island Pumpkin is another one that really gives me a warm, cozy feeling on cool fall nights, but sadly it doesn't get the love that a lot of the other locals do. Honestly, it's a pretty nice, approachable spiced ale that definitely showcases the pumpkin. Central City is another. Their version is more pumpkin than spice, but sometimes I long for some baking spices in there for more aroma.

Now of course, there are still all of the other American ones to go through...

Tried the Steamworks Great Pumpkin last night and was thoroughly impressed! A great, malty, brown-sugar-laced spiced ale. Very aromatic and quite a strong pumpkin presence. Really nice stuff!

Also, the Parallel 49 Schadenfreude more than delivered as an Oktoberfest/Pumpkin beer. Lots of Oktoberfest lager characteristics (buiscuity, sweet malts, floral hoppiness, full bodied, drinkable) with a subtle addition of pumpkin. Very approachable and balanced for fans of both O-fest and Pumpkin beers.

Howe Sound's Pumpkineater was exponentially better than the other six BC pumpkin beers I tried.

Only tried two BC pumpkin beers so far. Parallel 49 Lost Souls Chocolate Pumpkin Porter was pretty good but they probably could have left Pumpkin out of the name and nobody would have noticed. Phillips Crooked Tooth was not very good, probably would not buy again. Best pumpkin beer I have had so far this year is Elysian Night Owl -- nice pumpkin and ginger flavours, and quite refreshing. I will definitely check out Howe Sound and some of the others before the season is up.

For BC beer I would have to admit that it was the Howe Sound Pumpkineater for me. But I still think that Elysian Night Owl is a better pumpkin ale. I am finding that a lot of these pumpkin ales are way too spicy so it doesn't even feel like you're drinking a beer if the spice is too over powering. With the Night Owl it had the shot of spice in the first sip and then mellowed out to a nice pumpkin and beer flavor. I can never get enough of it.

Was at a pumpkin beer dinner tonight and Pumpkineater was pouring nicely. The Parallel 49 Lost Souls is good, but really subtle on the pumpkin. We had a few whiskey infused pumpkin ale casks at @YVRBeerTweetup that were pretty kickass too. The Schadenfreude reserve whiskey infused was the best imo, with PumpkinEater whiskey coming a very close 2nd.

I change my favorite BC pumpkin beer to be Central City Brewing Pumpkin ale. If any of you can get their hands on this it is probably the better beer that I have tasted from BC. Again I do not want to be drinking liquid pumpkin pie. I enjoy the taste of beer. This is a little bit sweet but nothing compared to what has been released. It is a very drinkable beer.
