I find it funny that some say scarcity leads to inflated ratings, others say familiarity/wide distribution causes inflated ratings.

I guess all those semi-hard to find but not really hard to find beers are super underrated!

I never said anything about inflated ratings.
My post meant that I have only had 3 of the listed choices, so availability plays a key roll in my choice.
    Period!

Surprised to see old Rasputin as the favorite. I thought it was a very good beer, but out of the beers I have had on this list it is towards the bottom for me.

Of the list I selected ten fidy as 1 .....but its really close. its pretty much top tiers and then next tier down, and then everyone else.. My list is as follows:
    1. Ten Fidy (Top Tier)
    2. TIE Founders RIS, Stone IRS, Plead the 5th, Yeti (Mid Tier)
    3. Brooklyn Black chocolate stout (Lower Tier)
    4. Old Rasputin (Lower Tier)

    Havent had bells or parabola.

I could understand your conclusion. Can we say it straddles the line?

Nah. Had it fresh and with 2 years on it. Tasted a lot like Founders Dark Penance.

Well whatever you meant, I still think it's an interesting thought: does familiarity or scarcity bump reputation?

Splitting hairs? "Founders All Day IPA isn't a session IPA, it's just a hoppy low abv pale ale!"

I was thinking something similar for my favorites ... I've only had about half the beers on the list, but I'm betting there's not a bad beer on there.

I have had it, its my favourite stout. In my opinion not all imperial stouts have to be malt bombs. Victory Stout is lean, hop forward, roasty, but very stout like in my opinion. I guess in Victory's opinion too! I get the DIPA thing, but my point is that beer styles have a "colour wheel" type of relation with one another. There are no lines between styles, and some beers fall into two closely related styles.

Which is a Black DIPA. I thought it was really good for the style.

I love me some RIS so I am always looking out to be able to try any that I havent. Looking forward to the day I am able to have Mexican Siberius Maximus, the name alone is awesome, the description of it is awesome. Definitely one I am on the look out for, hopefully some day I am able to taste such a treat.

So many good beers on that list, but I pick Founders.

Off the list, I pick Pretty Things Barbapapa. I'll also be stoked to try the bottle of Fumapapa I picked up, their new smoked variant on Barbapapa... but I'm one of those clowns who drink seasonally and don't long for RIS in the thick of summer, so it might be a while before I get to it.

Yeah I loved that beer. It isn't an overly popular beer so I'm not surprised to see it left off the list.

I went with Founders but it was very close between that and the Old Rasputin. I'm not sure I would be mad if any of these beers found their way into my glass though.

The correct answer is all of the stouts.

Price-wise: If choosing my favorite based on price (meaning that I could afford to drink it most often), then I think Old Raspy wins this fight without much difficulty; Brooklyn BCS probably a close second (at least based on prices in my neighborhood for a 4pk).

Overall favorite: It's a dogfight because my ratings look like this:
    Ten Fidy - 4.57
    Yeti - 4.46
    Old Rasputin - 4.43
    Stone IRS - 4.38
    Brooklyn BCS - 4.35

BUT... when you throw in the variants/a couple not listed in the poll, that list gets a bit more crowded and a lot tighter on the ratings:

    Oak Aged Yeti - 4.58
    Ten Fidy - 4.57
    Yeti - 4.46
    Old Rasputin - 4.43
Sam Smith Imperial Stout - 4.42
    Stone Espresso IRS - 4.4
Chocolate Oak Aged Yeti - 4.38
    Stone IRS - 4.38
Espresso Oak Aged Yeti - 4.37
    Brooklyn BCS - 4.35

And that's not even counting the couple of bottles I have that I've yet to even try, such as the Courage RIS, Barbapapa, etc.
