    Just because it's hoppier than the typical stout doesn't make it a Black DIPA. It's still a stout, with just a bigger hop presence than most. You're always in threads like this, telling people that the stouts they like are really just Black IPAs. Do you have fun doing this? Is it fulfilling?

    Stouts can be massively hopped and at one time commonly were so.
    Here are some historic beer recipes to show what things were like;

    http://barclayperkins.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/lets-brew-wednesday-1867-courage-double.html a mere 93 IBU. Double Stout was a name not a style :slight_smile:

    I definitely like stouts with a nice hop presence, seems to help in balancing out the sweetness.

    Anyone else wonder why all of the options on the list (save the Other category) are all American stouts? Why no UK additions? They invented the style and probably should be represented. Courage RIS, Samuel Smith Imperial Stout, etc.

    Yup, just as I wonder why BA stuff like Parabola would be listed.

    Gotta go with 'other', due to my long standing love of Berkshire RIS!

    I forgot to add this in the OP, but I've written it in this thread somewhere: I meant American only. I've been reading about the differences between the two styles, and due to the differences in hopping and yeast, English ones are better suited to aging. Look at the differences between English and American Barleywines!

    **I have a preference in general for English Bitters, English Stouts, and English Barleywines, so its nothing against the British.
