Just curious to hear about some of your favouirte 'newish' UK Breweries. Also keen to know why.

My two favs have to be Tempest from the Scottish Borders and Luckie Ales which is more in my neck of the woods. The former combines newist international trends with quality cask and bottled beer. Both innovative and traditional at the same time and quality is high. Luckie Ales largely produces historical beers which are unique but superbly well made. Only available in a few locations but this artisan brewery's quality is superb.

I rate Windsor & Eton highly of the newish ones (started in mid summer 2010). They try out unusual styles for a UK brewer. Their Czech Pils - Republika is excellent!

I've had something from Luckie I'm certain?

Tempest - yes have had quite a few of theirs, they appear often in my regular watering holes of the Craft and the Cask in London and also at The Sussex Arms in Twickenham

You tend to get stronger keg versions (as well as cask) at the Craft and Cask

Some notes on my laptop tell me I've had the Indian Black and the IPA just before Xmas at 6 and 7 % ABV respectively

In Cardiff there's the Artisan Brewing Co which are doing some interesting takes on German beer styles. I'm going to go to the brewery this saturday and buy some direct from them if I can.

I presume this 'debut' was a few years ago?

I've seen Blue Monkey beers at various BF's around London for 2 or 3 years now

Magic Rock. Not yet a year old but brewing two beers that for me are absolute stand-outs; High Wire and Dark Arts. Works just as well on cask as in keg. Their Black IPA and Imperial Stout have both been superb.

Yes - Magic Rock are top notch and a regular feature in the smoke at 2 bars beginning with 'C'!

Lets not forget a brewery beginning with K, 6 letters, under the railway arches heading out of London Bridge

Pale Ales, Porters and IPA's their speciality !

Pint of Blue Monkey Ape Ale this lunchtime-bar was so packed that I couldn't get to see the range on the pumps but seeing this one I asked for a pint as soon as the server recognised me. An excellent choice too.

Echoing several posts above, I'd have to say Magic Rock as well. Truly fantabulous beers....

I also enjoy Thornbridge and Brewdog (waiting for the hate to start

Red Willow do some tasty brews
Good beer seems to be picking up round Chesire/Mac/Alty way with Tatton and Wincle seems to have had a big positive impact too with Dunham Massey.

    BrewDog.
I'm not going to moan but here's my take on it.
When they get down to it and give a beer their full attention, such as Hops Kill ? they really can produce something special.
But recently with all the expansion and demand from their bars et all I really get the impression that they're struggling with producing enough consistently good beer. Recent bottles of Hardcore seem to be just a blunt booze bomb without the full on hop bitterness of old and their Scotch Ale which I've had on draft was just flaccid.

I have to second the praise for Hops Kill? which means i'm really not sure of where I stand on Brewdog. That and Punk IPA I think are very good beers, though I did not like 5AM Saint or Hardcore. I just wish I could get my hands on some more but unfortunately even in Cardiff there isn't any (that I can find at least) Even discount supermarket only does the 77 lager!

5am saint is a great beer - a hoppy brown 'high end' session (outside of the trad 4% boundary if you know what I mean) - well, I've sessioned on it so there !

There is just not enough Brewdog available in Manchester to give any real in depth contribution to this,
I wonder if this is a reflection on retailers or Brewdog.
