Hmmm, I went to a place in akaroa, I think it was, that had a nice pilsner and pale ale. Can't remember the name for the life of me though, but I think it was kind of a chain.

Also 8 wired has some decent stuff.

Enjoyed steinlager some 30 years ago as it was the rugby beer of choice. Moa is also quite tasty. Had some friends bring back and quote kiwis, all my lions piss Lion Red. Not bad. Would love to make the trip to further investigate this.

I used to love Speights when I could get it in California...but that was 10 years ago...but really tasty!

Good question. I had to consult my database on this as I've had none of their beers with any real regularity. I will say the stuff I've had from Wigram and Invercargill is just OK. Now the good news. I really liked Stonecutter by Renaissance and have also really enjoyed the Moa beers I've had, particularly St. Josephs Tripel and the 5 Hop. I've yet to have anything from 8 Wired, but understand they are doing some good work.

I really enjoyed the MOA triple. I didn't get a chance to try the stout. It was brought into WholeFoods but didn't seem to stick around long. I thought the triple was quite balanced and not overly hopped. If people don't like MOA it's probably a simple matter of taste. The lack of assertiveness in the hops is what appealed to me.

I also thought the yeast profile of the MOA was very belgian like, clean, dry and excellent carbonation.

I really enjoy brewing with New Zealand hops. I'm a big fan of Riwaka hops.
