It's amazing how different the style can be interpreted, spicy hoppy Sunshine, cracker dry Trauger Pils, Chez styles like Gordon Bierch (sp) Prima and such. It goes all over the place, from malty balanced Capt Jack to Jack Abby. Great stuff that ultimately crushable.

All the listed choices are good, but I prefer my pils to be Imperial-ized, so I'll go with Lagunitas Imperial Pils.

It most definitely is , I have to say I enjoy a good Pils as much as a great IPA or BA Stout.

The only ones from that list I've had are Urquell and Nooner. Both are definitely "I will buy this again" pilsners... actually the only thing that kept me from a twelve-pack of Pilsner Urquell recently was the fact that every pack in the store was already very old. >_<

I've also had Samuel Adams' Downtime Pilsner, which was interesting -- a different sort of thing from the traditional version, since it used some newer hops with citrusy type flavors (German ones rather than American ones, though, so not really pushing into "American pale ale that's being called a pilsner" territory) in addition to the noble hops, but enough "pilsner-y" features to qualify it for the style and definitely good.

Also enjoyed Bohemia, though unfortunately the only place I can find it around here is at the local Mexican restaurant. The first time I tried it I remember it having a lemony sort of flavor that I haven't picked up in any other pilsner since; it wasn't just from the lime they always stick in the bottles, either, since I drank one with the lime and one without and the lemony flavor was definitely present in both. Wish I could find a fresh six-pack so I can see what this beer is supposed to be like, as the last time I had it the lemony flavor was absent entirely and the malt flavors even seemed different than the first time I had it.

There's a new Trumer brewery other than the former Golden Pacific brewery in Berkeley that Gambrinus bought back in 2004 and re-opened to brew Trumer? Hopefully with more capacity the beer might make it back east.

Surprised I am not seeing Full Sail Cascade Pils. Very full bodied and hoppy like Prima.

I don't like pilsners very much, but one that I did enjoy was Crisp from Sixpoint. Exactly as the name implies and didn't taste too bad.

Keesmann Herren Pils is pretty hard to beat, especially when you have it at the source.

Staropraman is a pretty tasty Czech pilsner too. I actually prefer it to Urquell because IMO it has more noble hop flavor. Like any imported pils finding it reasonably fresh is the tricky part.

My apologies, that's exactly the "new" brewery I was referring to. When I said "new brewery" I meant new compared to their original Austrian facility. However, I had no idea the US location has been open that long. Thanks for letting me know and sorry if I gave your hopes up!

I'm not sure I could go home again , but the SE Philly Pils scene is really remarkable, I'd love to have daily access. I can't rank them if I tried, they're so very different, one for a different mood. I'm a confirmed hop head , but the dull average IPAs flooding the market pushed me to different styles. To those who turn a nose up at a Pils your missing out, sometimes extreme doesn't make it. Sit back and enjoy a basic very difficult style of beer to brew and deliver.
