I've had a chance to try fairly fresh bottles of most of the beers on the OP list.

Chalk up one more for the Sunshine Pils from Troegs. That one pushes all the right buttons for me.

I think it is closely followed by the Stoudt's Pils, especially on tap.

Also on my list of favorites are the Sly Fox Pils, the Victory Prima, the Pils from Trauger and the Firestone-Walker Pivo (when fresh).

When it comes to fresh Pils beers, I love living in SE PA where most of the one's on my list are readily available.

(BTW, in case you've not already guessed, my preferences run to the German style Pils rather than the Czech style.)

Toss up for me between PU and Jever, since they are such different beers they are hard to compare. I voted PU since Jever is hard to find around here, so I can't call it a "go to"

Thank you but I am more interested in discussion. Since this is a beer discussion forum, I thought it was the right place.

Plus, the question is "what is your go-to pilsner", not "which pilsner is rated the highest on Beeradvocate".

Although SN Nooner, Summerfest and Prima Pils are excellent beers, I voted other. Oskar Blues' Mama's Little Yella Pils, Saint Arnold's Summer Pils and Real Ale's Hans Pils are also very good. I wish that I had room for all that are mentioned here. Cheers and drink up!

Unfiltered unpasteurized PU is perhaps the best Pilsner I have had.

I bought some a few weeks ago with that date on the bottles, and they were already lightly skunked. It was on sale at $5.99 I though 6 months out would be ok, it should have been, but obviously the beer thru it's travels was improperly stored.

I chose other too. Captain Jack from Old Mecklenburg is "a " favorite, I love Sunshine Pils when it's available, Sly Fox, Neshaminy Creek Trauger Pils.

Beer "skunks" - becomes light-struck - only when it is exposed to light, particularly sunlight or florescent light. And that happens within minutes or hours, depending on the strength of the light and other factors, so a date code isn't going to be much help in predicting a light-struck beer. "Improperly stored" in the sense of exposing beer to light is going to be the retailer's doing - importers and distributors don't remove sixpacks from the case carton - which obviously can't be determined from the date code.

Also, the Pilsner Urquell imported into the US by MillerCoors has a "Best by" date determined by a suggested shelf life of 9 months - so the "June 2016" PU was probably bottled in Sept.

I love Czechvar on tap, but alas, it's not to be had here in the states.

    - - - - Thanks, jess, I haven't seen it but I'll look around.

It's a shame and one reason why I usually stay away from German or imported beers. The skunk factor is just IMO is
Just too great, the exception is the Fest beers. It's why I stay local with codes, and properly stored beer. Thanks for the info.

    I voted other.

For packaged beer it is Troegs Sunshine Pils.

For non-packaged beer it is Victory Braumeister Pils (which is unfiltered and unpasteurized).

    Cheers!

Trumer. Sorry for the limited distribution, but it's -- hands-down -- the best German-style Pils in the U.S.

When I lived for a bit in Prague my favorite beer was Budvar but also had lots of Pilsner Urquell. But what I get of those here in the states is nowhere near as good. So my go to pilsner is Troegs Sunshine Pils.
