Well, I guess the difference between "go-to" and "highest rated" is subjective. To me, the best "go-to" beer in a style would be the best beer. Not sure why someone would consider a lesser beer a "go-to." I don't usually grab mediocre beers if I can get better off the shelf.

And BTW, a cursory glace at the responses seem to match up pretty closely with the top rated, so there's that.

Second mention for North Coast Scrimshaw. It's not underrated, but maybe a bit overlooked these days. To my palate, it embodies Pils perfection :-)

I'm curious as to how it got skunked since PU has been in brown bottles for awhile now. Plus if it was a 12 pack it would have been fully covered.

Voted Pivo. Noble Pils used to be my go-to but it's not brewed anymore (Downtime replaced it). In reality, I have a multi-way tie between many that I enjoy, The Crisp, Pivo, Prima, Urquel, Rothaus Tannenzapfle, BudVar and SA's Downtime Pilsner. I like to bounce between all of those frequently throughout the year and am always happy.

One's mentioned that just don't work for me: Nooner, Troegs Sunshine, Lagunitas, Wehenstephaner & Scrimshaw.

Jever I seem to be hit or miss with. Must be freshness issues.

I feel your pain about Noble Pils. Though, it's still brewed for seasonal packs like the Cabin Fever mixed pack on shelves now. I wish it was year 'round like before.

Thanks for the tip. I saw the cabin fever in the store the other day, but didn't read the brews in it. If the others in that pack are decent, I'll pick it up next time. SA seasonal packs are always pretty good for the beer budget.

It was a sixer so it was in the cooler sitting under fluorescent lights. No idea how they store it in the back, but I'm betting in cases and they push it to the front as needed. I just need to stay away from low turn over beer, it's always a bad idea. Brown bottles are supposed to help over green, but that alone obviously won't stop the skunking process. If there's any left I bet they'd smell like cabbage when you pop the top. I'm afraid to buy this stuff by the 12 pack because if it's bad your dumping it, but if it's reasonably dated it might be the best way so it's enclosed.

I've been gravitating towards Riegele's Herrenpils lately. Which is rather surprising considering it's definitely a very hoppy pils, and I'm usually in it for the malt. But it has some kind of alluring style I just can't ignore. And, indeed, some good malt character to back it all up. It's also priced just right here in Sweden.

There are so many greats to be had, but since I live in Charlotte, NC my personal go-to is some good ol' OMB Capt Jack.

The epitome of drinking a great beer that's fresh. They pulled out of Greensboro, I miss their beers already. I wish they weren't an hour and a half away I'm in Burlington.

They will be back out there someday. Sounds like you need to get a keg next time your in the Charlotte area.

My favorite Pilsner of all is Capitol Garten Brau Special Pilsner, but I cannot buy it locally.

I love The Wright Pils from Great Lakes. It's currently in retirement, but I am hopeful they'll bring it back. Excited to try their new March seasonal pils in a few weeks.

Dale, I recently purchased a 4-pack of Pilsner Urquell cans.

Needless to say but read the date before purchasing!!

Your go to might be different from your highest rated based on availability. One of my highest rated pils is Konig, but its not always available in my local shops and thus I wouldn't call it a "go-to"
