Sly Fox Pikeland Pils is my favorite. Try to get this every time I travel to the mid-Atlantic states for work.

I was afraid of trying prima again because i prefer hoppier pils than the norm. Now that i see its your favorite, i got my answer.

This thread has me craving a fresh Pilsner now. I find that there aren't a ton of fresh choices around. If Pivo Pils was regularly fresh it would be a no-brainer (FW beer in general is difficult to find at a satisfactory freshness level)

Six Point - The Crisp. Very tasty, and an easy "go-to". For another great, but not necessarily "go-to" option, I would say Ramstein - Imperial Pilsner.

Are these PU cans pretty plentiful around the US now? I have yet to see them in any shops in central MD.

I checked dates, but I'm guessing as to the canned date. Jess said Sept , so it would be 5 months old. But it was obviously light struck, how long it takes I haven't a clue. But here in Burlington even a simple Prima isn't available, only Nooner and I've never had that before. Just a reminder why I stay away from imported Pils that's not a Fest beer.

I voted for Pilsner Urquell because when it's on it's on - and obviously, when it's off it's off. But Prima is by far my favorite, consistent Pils. Or Half Acre's Pony Pils - stellar beer.

Yup, PU uses a 9 month best by timeframe.
I hear you! I rarely purchase imported Pilsners since more often than not they are too old for my tastes. I found that 4-pack of PU and since it was 'only' 4 months old I figured I'd buy it. The majority of my Pilsner purchases are US craft brewed version (e.g., Troegs, Stoudts, Sly Fox, Neshaminy Creek, etc.) and I only buy 6-packs that one month (or less) old.

And then there are homebrewed Pilsners: I bottled a batch of Classic American Pilsner two days ago, I have a Bohemian Pilsner in my Lagering Chamber and my next brew with be a reconstruction of an 1896 Michelob (which is a Pilsner).

    Cheers!

Not sure why you even need to buy beer, what you brew is top notch by any standard.

Best domestic - Troegs Sunshine Pils
    Best overall - Rothaus Tannenzäpfle

Well shit. I voted Sam Adams but I gave Nooner a much higher score (after researching the options) so pretend there's one less vote for Sam Adams :flushed:

Reading through this thread: definitely some great brews mentioned here by people, and I'm relatively impressed (shocked?) with how closely to style people are sticking. The Crisp, the various special Victory pilseners, Bitt, König, Trumer...the list goes on and I'd argue that they're all pretty much to-style for both the US craft examples and the imports.

Honestly this is almost impossible for me to answer. So I voted other because my latest favorite is Von Trapp Pilsner although "go to" could mean anyone of those on the list!

That you for those kind words. While I am a fairly prolific homebrewer the reality is that the supply does not quite meet demand 100% of the time. The 'challenges' of having a wife of Irish descent!?!

They are not particularly common in NJ (don't know about the quantity or availability around the rest of the nation ) - I buy it when I see it and it has a good date - bought a case back on 1/15/16 for $36.99.

Do you ask for them? In most markets they're going to be distributed by MillerCoors houses, so it's not like there's a retailer around who can't get them but no retailer is going to order a beer without know there's a demand (and since many already carry Pilsner Urquell in both 6-packs and 12-packs of bottles, they probably see less reason to carry another package of the same beer without knowing there's a market for them). The package is probably also not a priority for a salesman worried about 20 different packages of Coors Light and Miller Lite, so it's not like they're going to push the cans, either. Might also be the case that the local MC house doesn't carry the cans, either. Could always call them and find out.
