Is anyone going to Feast Portland? This year, they have three events that look promising: I'm In A Cult - "Get a delicious introduction to some of the world’s most sought-after, collectible beers and find out what makes them so desirable." Old MacDonald Had A Brewery - "European-style farmhouse ales are going mainstream across America. From breweries that grow their own grains to family farms that have just recently gotten into the brewing biz, get a taste of what these farm-raised brews have to offer." Beer Bites Brunch - "Join beer guru Christian DeBenedetti of Wolves & People Farmhouse Brewery (and author of The Great American Ale Trail) along with cookbook author Andrea Slonecker (The Picnic; Eggs on Top; Pretzel Making at Home) as they crack open a world-class selection of beers to pair with three inventive recipes from their forthcoming cookbook, Beer Bites: Tasty Recipes and Perfect Pairings for Brew Lovers." Last year, I went to the "A Walk On The Sour Side" tasting panel. It's was a bit spendy, but since there was hardly anyone there I got to have three glasses each of The Ale Apothecary's Sahalie, The Commons' Trillium, Prairie's Puncheon, The Rare Barrel's Cosmic Dust and Cantillon's Vigneronne.
I got tickets to a couple events, but not the beer ones. Widmer will be featured prominently at the ones I got. Kicking myself for not going to that sour one last year. I didn't realize it was so empty!
I'd be a lot more inclined to buy tickets if they gave a bit more info, especially $45 to "Get a delicious introduction to some of the world’s most sought-after, collectible beers and find out what makes them so desirable."
I know... Lat year for "A Walk On The Wild Side", they didn't announce the beers until a few days before the event.
Exactly. They'll probably have Abyss and Pliny... I really love the food and beer scene that PDX has to offer. Feast just brings everybody out, which means higher prices and more people. Two things I'm not particularly a fan of. With that said, I'm going to jump on the Smoked! event. I don't think Feast will ever have much of a beer community following. They focus more on food. Now if CBC could just be in PDX EVERY year, that would be amazing!
If the CBC was in PDX every year - that could spell trouble. The few events I managed to make it to were great. Too much killer beer...
I've hit up Feast every year so far. My folks, brother and an aunt & uncle are all coming out for it this year, so we're doing a bunch of stuff, including all of the beer events listed in the OP. With respect to, "Get a delicious introduction to some of the world’s most sought-after, collectible beers and find out what makes them so desirable.", I have high hopes, because based on past events, the organizers are definitely knowledgeable about what that statement actually means. Like @JouerAvecLeFeu described, there was the ability to get multiple pours of everything during the Walk on the Sour Side event due to them not selling out. The year before it was multiple pours of a couple different Cantillons. I'm not sure if this will continue, but for all of these tasting events in years' past, all of the beers are pre-poured for every available seat (whether sold or not). So for the one with the loons a couple years ago, there were literally dozens of glasses filled with Cantillon that were not going to get consumed due to the event being undersold and no one sitting in those seats. It was a tough job deciding to suck it up and tell the staff not to remove/dump all that delicious beer until they absolutely had to while I took down as much as I could, but someone had to do it. EDIT: I also just realized that by saying this, I pretty much torpedoed the chances of that ever happening again for me.
Nonsense. You are Advocacy at it's best. You experienced something cool, you are sharing it. You got yours, you want others to get theirs. Glad to buy you a beer any time.
