so, I have a fair amount of packages that need to go out tomorrow or early next week, so many that I am planning on using fed ex pick up instead of walking them all to UPS.

    a couple quick questions:

    • how accurate do my weights need to be? (not trying to scam anyone, my bathroom scale just sucks)
    • do I need to worry about the amount of packages? or content I am sending? (generally with UPS I just tell them it's souvenirs and write fragile on it, but I have so many this time, so I'm concerned)
    • can I do same day pick up? (I plan on getting all my weights and packages together late night tonight, so I hope I can schedule a pick up for tomorrow)
Also, if you have any other tips or concerns from your experiences, please let me know!

    1. Not accurate. They will adjust them if they're off.
    2. No
    3. If you go on the website tonight, you can schedule a pick-up for tomorrow.

Weights: I know there are plenty of people who fudge weights, or just put 5 lbs. for everything. If you're even in the ballpark, I wouldn't be concerned about it.

Amount of Packages: I know there are plenty of people who send out several packages at once, but I don't. Call me paranoid, but I remember a long time ago (4 years, maybe 5?) that someone sent out 4 packages, something broke in 1, & he ended up losing 3 boxes to a zealous shipping company employee flagging his other shipments. I'll bet this only happens once in a blue moon, but it's enough to keep me from sending more than 2 boxes at once. YMMV.

^I usually drop off at multiple locations when I'm shipping alot of boxes in see they decide to open one of my boxes

I haven't have a box opened since I started to tape the shipping label over the opening... You have to destroy the label in order to get into the box

I do that as well. I've never had a box opened, I just like to spread the risk out a bit when multiple boxes go out.

Of course I usually use strapping tape as well.

If they ever do open my box, they'll just find another box wrapped in a plastic garbage.

I do that too, but have wondered: why don't they just open it from the bottom?

I like to use the boxes that are glued on the bottom and taped on the top. I find them to be sturdier and more tamper-proof

As far as FedEx pick-up is concerned, I've tried twice and have been unsuccessful both times. The first time, the box was picked up by "FedEx Air" rather than "FedEx Ground" and took like a week to sort out. Not a huge deal, but it was my first trade and I was uber stressed the whole time. Not to mention the countless hours I spent on the phone with them - trying to sort it out. The second time, they didn't pick up until three days after the scheduled date - which is when I realized that the "free" pick-up is just that - free. You get what you're paying for, and they don't have to make any guarantees on when they come, etc.

That's just my experience. Other than that, FedEx has been great. I've dropped off multiple ("suspicious") packages and haven't had any hassle. Everything has arrived to it's destination quickly and totally in-tact.

1 - Doesn't matter. They'll reweigh it at the hub if they feel like it. I suppose if you were absurdly abusive here it may cause a problem as the truck has limited space. (i.e. don't ship a fridge without inputting proper dimensions)

2 - There's no place to even input what you're sending. One of the beauties of pick-up... no nosy store people to ask what's in the box.

3 - No, next day. You can fill it out pretty late at night and get next day pickup still.
