Quick question: what's the cheapest "service type" option? I always select "home delivery," but I'm wondering if this costs more (than say, regular "ground delivery") as they add the Saturday option.

(I just don't understand why FedEx isn't more clear on what costs what!)

Yes. Its a couple bucks extra for home delivery, so if you know you wont need Saturday delivery (this is why I always ship on Mondays) you dont necessarily need that

I posted about this a few months ago. There were some interesting responses:

    Two questions:

    1) I guesstimated the package weight at 35#, but it was actually 32.5 (the guy weighed it when I dropped it off). Will they adjust the weight down, or will they charge me for the weight I entered? (I know they'll adjust up, just not sure what they do in the case of an underage.)

    2) The sloshing sound was wicked bad this time, and I wasn't sure how to disguise it. So, I put a little sign on the package that said "snowglobes - FRAGILE." Dumb idea? I know some people put "Al's Snowglobe Emporium" or whatever, but I didn't trust they'd actually read the sender name (plus, it's not coming from a business account).

    1) Yes, they'll adjust down.

    2) You're just drawing more attention to the box, but I doubt it will matter. If they took it and its on its way, it will probably be fine.

    1) they will put the right weight. So it'll appear as 32.5 lbs.

    2) I don't think it's dumb. But you might wanna invest in shippers or pack your boxes tighter next time. Or the best method IMO if you don't have a shipper...double box. I've never heard sloshing when I double box.

Yup. Double box, bottles upright, pack tight, use some newspaper for a little crinkle = no noise at all.

Ah, ok. That sounds like a good idea (shippers and/or double boxing). Originally, I stood the bottles upright as they seemed a lot less likely to break that way, but it took up too much space. So laying them down is probably causing much more sloshing. The dude at the drop-off center was way chill, but you never know who else might be curious. Hopefully, they're not a snowglobe collector!

Today I had to use the UPS store to ship two boxes - in the past I've always used my online fedex account and didn't have to worry about questions. Told them I'm sending "care packages" that our youth group put together for two of our college students away on mission trips helping run Vacation Bible Schools.

    UPS: What are the contents?
    Me: Snacks and drinks
UPS: Can you be more specific? Any glass?
Me: Candy, popcorn, granola bars, bottled water and a bottle of Snapple. We bubble wrapped the Snapple bottles and double-bagged them in gallon zip-loc bags just in case.
UPS: Perfect. Any alcohol in that 3-bottle shipper?
Me: Heavens no. We re-used boxes from the church; that's what the communion wine comes in.
UPS: Sounds good, have a great day.
    Me: Thank you, God bless.

I made sure to ask for receipts so the church can reimburse me for shipping costs - just for good measure.
