shipped a box to a friend in Georgia and as it was out for delivery, apparently it's being returned for inspection (knowing FedEx, I bottle probably broke). How worried should I be? Should I tell me friend to just go pick up the box at the local FedEx facility?
It all depends on the situation really. If there are some bottles of value in there, most certainly. If not, it might be better to refuse the box, and go about submitting a claim to try to get some $$$ to cover the beers in the box..
If you're going to try and get it, don't wait. They may decide that it's staying with them forever and ever.
**Knocks on wood** Over the years, I've had good luck getting hold of the local hub and asking them to hold it for me or my trading partner. Call the local hub again... You might be able to go there to pick up what ever is left and not thrown away. I have had to do this a couple of times.... Once an entire growler of Short's Key Lime Pie leaked and was throw way, but I still got every bottle that was in the box. If I remember right, I called the 1-800 number and had them transfer me directly to the local hub. Once you get connected with the local hub, make sure to write down the name of whoever you speak with and get a direct contact phone number. If they bitch at you about the beer, play dumb and say something like we are old college roommates and are shipping something to remind you of the good ole days.... Just play dumb and you should be okay. PLAY DUMB and innocent.
