For those unfamiliar, Delivery Manager is a newish product from Fedex that lets you validate your home address and includes some neat features. (Hold packages while you're on vacation, re-route in-transit, leave specific delivery instructions, and digital signatures for "signature required" packages.) http://www.fedex.com/us/delivery/ One other thing it does, which is a plus in most circumstances, is it alerts you as soon as a package goes in transit to your house. With this alert you see the sender's name and town/state. Which means, for BIF boxes, the surprise of finding a box on your porch from parts unknown is gone. I think the benefits still greatly outweigh the costs, but head's up to people that this is going to start happening more frequently as enrollment grows. BIF hints are going to need to get moved up correspondingly...
There was a study that showed people who had the plots of movies and TV shows spoiled ahead of time end up enjoying the experience more. Perhaps BIF hints need to evolve to invoke salivation instead of mystery.
UPS has a similar service as well, called UPS My Choice. It doesn't alert you until 48hrs before a package lands at your address, but still long enough to figure out who sent to you before it arrives.
