A friend is shipping me some stuff. He said to email him a fedex shipping label. I could probably do that by printing to PDF. Do I have to add the weight and box dimensions or is that optional to print a label?

I'm sure you have done it by now. But I don't worry about dimensions and I always put 1lb for weight. If they don't catch it then it's a cheaper package for you to ship. If they do catch it they just adjust to the right weight and change the shipping charge.

Can you expand on that a bit? You put 1lb for the weight then they just charge your account extra?

Yeah sorry. When you create your account online you add a CC that fedex's will bill on. So I always just say all my packages are 1lb. If they catch it and change the weight then they recalculate the shipping price to what it should have originally been. Best case scenario you pay the 1lb weight shipping price. Worst case scenario you pay the actual price of your package. Look at the shipping cost for 1lb and the correct weight price, then you know at worst you will pay the correct weight price. Kinda nice if you don't have a scale to go off of either.

Actually they charge you a reweighing fee if you are using your online account. There is a little * next to the price. If they catch it they charge you $15 plus the actual chargeable weight of the package. I would check your bills because when they are catching it you are probably paying closer to $50 instead of $30.

Talking to a lot of people in a lot of other forums. This doesn't seem like accurate information.

I don't know where you are getting your information from but I put 1lb on all my packages and non of my invoices have a reweighing fee.

At my work we get hit with fees. I look at invoices from FedEx all day long. You might not be seeing it because of dimensional weight. We normally dim out so actual is considered not the dim. Our boxes mostly get charged dimensional so that rate is being considered and they don't care what weight you are putting down. Either way your not paying for a 1lb package.

I dont really understand your response. What do you mean by "You might not be seeing it because of dimensional weight. We normally dim out so actual is considered not the dim."

I have mentioned this extra $15 fee on multiple forums and no one has seen this. Is this for some special type of freight? Are you in a special industry?

He did say it was for his work, so maybe those big business accounts are different. I rarely use Fedex, but I have an account for this reason (sending a label). I usually just say 5 pounds and 5x5x5 dimensions and it's normally changed to the accurate weight and dimensions and I've never noticed an extra charge.

I am not trying to make any assumptions what is happening for other people just putting the warning out there. My first shipment I got charged a reweigh fee so now I just go a lb or so over to not have to worry about it. I look at freight rates all day and re-weigh fees are accessorial charges we deal with on a regular basis. I brought up dims because starting in January of this year FedEx started charging dim weight for ground which had not been the case previously. Most shipments I get, people cram as many cans in a small box as they can so the actual weight is higher then dim. The product I ship that is not the case. I will say the first time shipping where I got the charge was before the dim weight change so that change may have affected other parts of the policy. Not saying anyone is lying or anything like that just what I have seen.
