I am also a UPS user, seemingly in the minority judging from how many Fedex boxes I have seen sent to me in trades. Never had a problem.

Not sure it will help, but I have had people add noise implements with the beer when shipping to me. Altoid container with a couple pennies, small beans in the box so it rattles, etc.

You can use bubble wrap within the styro sleeves so the bottles do not move, AT ALL. The only issue after doing that is that the sloshing sound of the liquid in the bottles becomes a little more prominent as well.

Interesting, maybe I will try that. I have always just shipped my boxes well packed but sounding sloshy with no UPS problems. Its not against the rules to ship LIQUID, just beer

people got to understand after 9/11 FedUp cracked down on all shipping packages, international and domestic.FedUp employees have gone through more training on spotting suspicious packages-even ones that sound like they have liquids.they are just doing their jobs..i know i toss my FedUp driver a $20.00 now and than..a lil tip goes along way to get your package..

You are missing the point entirely. I tip my driver very well and he is a great guy, FEDEX as a whole could not be better, I just happen to have some kind of QC gestopo guy at the depot that likes to open squeaky boxes. That's good for the post 9/11 suspicious packages, but sucks for me and incoming beer to Vermont. I know many people that get wine like this here in Vermont all of the time and not a one of them has ever gone through a strip search of their box.

    People tip FedEx/UPS drivers?

My mind has just been blown.

I just gave my FedEx driver a beer as a thank you today (bottle of Hoptimum, actually).

I've given a different driver some beer to try (he's a total BMC-guy) - he didn't like the stuff I gave him but he was grateful just the same. I also tipped that same driver at Christmas Time. Now they ask if I'm expecting "special packages" anytime soon and *never* give me a hard time.

Why not? You tip the pizza guy when he brings you a pizza...
Obviously it is ridiculous to tip the FedEx guy every time he brings a box, but when the holiday season rolls around, I always leave a card for him.
He comes to my house 2-4 times per week on average throughout the year. He is always friendly, polite, helpful, and professional. He brings me the stuff I need (like important documents, printer cartridges, etc) and the stuff I look forward to getting more than anything else-- my boxes of beer.

When it is hot out I will leave him a gatorade or a water in a cooler on my porch. He knows he has full permission to use my garden hose anytime he would like (trust me, drenching your head with a hose in July is a beautiful thing!), and I have given him my garage door code so he can place boxes inside when it is extremely cold out.

As in most areas of life, you get what you give. I have no doubts that my driver would go absolutely out of his way for me. If it costs me $25 and a couple bottles of gatorade, so be it. I also give a card to my mailman and garbageman (and no, I'm not being sexist- they are both men.)
While walking the dog I have heard my garbageman telling a neighbor that he "cannot pickup more than 1 oversized item per week from any one house," when the week before he took 2 couches from my driveway.

    ---
    just to anticipate some comments--
"But fedex and ups guys make good money!"
--right. So if you got a haircut by the owner of the barbershop that drives a BMW you wouldn't tip him for the same reason?
"They are doing their job, why should anyone tip them? What's next? Am I going to have to tip the traffic cop or the cashier at Wal-Mart?"
--When framed as a slippery slope argument this sounds silly. I personally tip my delivery drivers because they do a great job and I want to let them know I appreciate it. I have also developed a relationship with them as their customer and I think they appreciate that I give them a card during the holidays.

In any case-- tip, don't tip, it matters not to me... Unless you're rmalinowski4 because I am in fact your UPS driver.

I absolutely tip my Fedex guy. And he knows that most of the boxes I receive are beer. IMO, a little gesture goes a long way in almost any relationship one can have.

Just drink the beer and send empty bottles. That will deal with the sloshing.

I've just honestly never seen it done by anyone ever so it is completely foreign to me. I just got a beer shipment yesterday, the UPS guy dropped the box off, knocked once and immediately jetted back to his truck...that's pretty much how every delivery I have gotten has gone, they are in the truck before I ever make it to the door.

Out of curiosity do you guys tip your mailman as well?

I just don't get the whole "on your side" thing. I mean the point of the pizza delivery guy was brought up...well they work for tips and tips alone usually. FedEx, UPS, USPS workers are paid a good wage to deliver packages and mail. Maybe if they do something extraordinary I'd tip, but otherwise, if they are just dropping packages off at my doorstep I just can't see tipping them.

Now mind you I am not cheap, I tip probably more than I should to tip based workers (pizza dude, bartenders, waitresses etc).

I see where you are coming from. If you are asking them to put the box around back then that is asking them to go out of their way and I can see where a tip would be warranted.

Maybe I am in too busy of an area, but the UPS and FedEx guy don't appear to 'own' my neighborhood. They're always different.

Yeah, we don't have a "usual guy" either, I think they rotate routes or something.

    Re-read my post--
I'm not saying tip the driver everytime you see him; I'm saying a card in December is certainly appreciated.
I anticipated and answered the "they make good money" argument in that post as well.

But you are right, 95% of my deliveries occur when no one interacts with the driver... But that doesn't mean he has forgotten who I am just because I'm not home. My FedEx guy has called me before in December to say that he just found another box for me and though he was 12 miles away he was willing to come back out and deliver it if I needed it (it was actually something my wife ordered that we we didn't need right away so I told him just mark it as 'not home' and drop it off tomorrow).

As stated above, a little gesture goes a long way.

Fedex has flagged my address. They've probably done this to you too. Might want to advise future traders to ship UPS.

I just received a box shipped via Fed Ex that got ripped open somehow. It was repacked, stickers were placed on the box saying it contained alcohol and an adult signature was required. It was still delivered with everything intact.
