Nice driver, he could have took the box home with him or Cherry pick a bottle. Could have destroyed it too, but they usually send a warning notice on illegally shipping alcohol.

Since you gents seem so knowledgeable. What happens in scenario 1?

    1. nothing broke, but random x-ray scan shows alcohol being shipped (status shows last at a FedEx location)

Does FedEx return the package to the sender, dispose of it ...? I think I am looking at this situation now. Package going from Cali to Fla. Outside of Atlanta it went from delivery date of 4/10 to "No estimated delivery date available at this time."

@Perllygate I just lost a box entirely, partly because of my own stupidity, partly because of the driver I believe. I shipped Fedex ground and usually take it to a local Kinkos/Fedex to drop off. I stupidly put it in an express box. The box was picked up and my package was never scanned.

Everything was bubblewrapped and bagged, but I suspect something broke just from the short drop into the box and he/she smelled it and kept it.

This was in a padded, insulated box too that I packed snugly but not too tightly. Strongly suspect the driver just kept it. Mine shows as picked up 4/6 and scanned only because I called and complained that it was lost. They asked me repeatedly what was in it and I told them "preserved foods."

Perhaps they are starting to crack down on bottle shipments? I will use UPS next time and double box it. I'm thinking regular box for the beer and a Staples 8x11 paper box well padded with foam pellets to cushion the goods.

Update. We actually lucked out. Sender called Fedex they said the label came off and asked him what was sent. He answered truthfully and told them beer. They just asked if he wanted the package to continue on or come back. Showed up at my door today. Everything that was suppose to come showed up! They even called the sender and told him the package was delivered.

How would an x-ray show alcohol? It might show bottles, and might even show liquid in those bottles, but shipping liquids is not against FedEx policy, per se, so not sure they would start ripping open every box that has liquids in it.

Sort of feel similarly about random driver ripping open boxes with liquids in them, unless they know for sure that lots of beer is being shipped into/out of their area (such as Williston, where I used to live). Seems like a lot of work when what's in the box could just as easily be marinades or salad dressings or hair products or.....

I think in my case, this was an experienced driver who simply knew based on the size of the box, the weight, and the squeaking from the styro. 12 bottles of wine, which are delivered legally all the time, is going to basically weigh what 12 bottles of beer in a shipper weigh. That was an easy one I believe.

Just had a bottle break in transit, FedEx repacked the other 11 and returned them to me. I didn't get any kind of "you screwed up" email or note on the box. However, when I log into my account and go to My Profile I only have an option to change my account nickname. I don't see where I can add/change CC#, I don't have a section that lists what services I can perform online, etc. (which are all visible for my wife's new account).

Is my account hosed? Will they check future shipments to/from me? What does everyone else see if they go to My Profile -> Account Management -> Acct#?

I haven't been very happy with FedEx lately, at all, and this isn't just over beer shipping

I hand an entire shipment discarded a while back and an improper shipment recently and I can still see everything. Check again and call FedEx CS and see what they say.

Just got a call asking me to pick up my box at the distribution station since they detected alcohol. If this has happened to anyone, have you been able to then continue sending boxes under the same account? Or do they flag your account on any future shipments you try to make to check for alcohol? Trying to figure out whether I should risk re-sending via FedEx or dumping that account and opening a new one with UPS. Thanks in advance.

Sorry to bump up an old thread, but I was curious how others have responded once they've been flagged from FedEx for shipping alcohol. I've been hesitant to make any more trades, in case they flag your account on future shipments. I opened an account with UPS to fulfill the original shipment, but man, it was significantly more expensive than FedEx. Hoping I can go back to them. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

I am not sure if I really needed to or not, but I opened a new FedEx account in my wife's name and used a different credit card.

I paid for a box to be shipped up to me from Florida last week. It made it to Orlando where it was damaged and returned to the sender. It was missing one beer. I sent out another box on Monday, before I received the news about my first package. It made it to CT and then is now being turned around and sent back to me. Am I screwed with fed ex?

No. If you trade enough, eventually you'll have a breakage, &/or receive "The Letter" from FedEx ominously warning you not to ship alcoholic beverages.

Most of us send a package or two through UPS, then go back to FedEx. Happened to me a few years ago & never had another issue. There have been similar stories that pop up here regularly. No need to worry.

Had this happen to me. Box made it on the truck for delivery and then an "exception danged on delivery" was put on it. I wasn't lucky enough to have the box sent back to me. Gonna try to send a box Monday so hopefully they don't flag accounts.

I've literally turned around the next day and resent the box to the same person and it made it just fine. And that's while sending other boxes out on the same account. Never had any additional issues. You'll get your letter from their paralegal in a week or so. I wouldn't worry about it.
