That's exactly what I was thinking when I read the post. Quite an odd story for sure.

Honestly, since I knew what it was, I didn’t really care. I was waiting for the package to come in, because I need it next week, and if it did not arrive I would have a bit of an issue.

If it was beer, I would have told him to get lost. It’s fine. I accept it.

I just moved to Cincinnati, and I have not been in this office for many years. I don’t know if this guy is our BFF, or what. I try to be lenient with people. If this is his way of being studious, fuck, hard to give the guy a hard time about that.

This was in Cincinnati, not Indiana, I just have not updated my profile.

The way our office is set up is that you come in, there is a secretary, and then effectively there is a long rectangle around the outside of the building with offices around the entire outside. The secretary sent him TO my office (met him in the hallway just outside my door since I heard the guy come in and then mention my name). If this was my house...you can fuck off and all and stay outside.

For the record, I prefer Fedex for non USPS shipping. This is really my first odd experience with anything like this.

Not completely relevant, but since it was mentioned, FedEx/Kinkos are not privately owned; FedEx owns all of their facilities. UPS Stores are franchised by private owners.

All of this talk about FedEx being strictly of course made me worry when I had a box that was out delivery then show a delivery exception and that it was being returned to the center for inspection. I figured I knew where this was headed, they figured out there was liquid in there because something broke, or because it is always kinda obvious if you are carrying a box around, and I just had to hope that they wouldn't destroy it all.

The next day it was back on the truck, got delivered just fine with no bottles broken or any leakage. Not sure what the inspection was, but the one odd thing was that it appeared that they had poked a few holes in the top of the 12 bottle styro above some of the bottles (which I suppose means they'd probably have seen bottle caps or cork cages) and they delivered it anyways.

Highly confusing and it freaked me out quite a bit since it was a pricey box full of stuff I had proxied.

That literally could've been the driver had the package was out too late and brought back for next day delivery.

Exception doesn't always mean something went wrong

I've had this happen a couple times. Trick is to call them immediately and to inquire about the delivery and how its not there. Tell them it is very important that it arrives ASAP as it contains medical supplies. They will change their tune and vwahhlaaa it will be on your porch in no time.

The FedEx website right now has a picture of a dude with a beard filling a 12 shipper with maple syrup. Apparently enough people have told FedEx employees this same story so now it's a marketing thing. Congrats everyone. We've made it.

It actually said "Returned to Facility for Inspection" at 1:35PM so I assume it wasn't just a driver who ran out of time. Unless of course the driver was lazy and put that in since he didn't want to deliver it that day I suppose.

I legitimately can't process how people take their job this seriously. What do they gain? Does fedex let drivers keep boxes of shit that they take?

Also I'm fairly certain he has no right to make you open it after he has delivered it. I legitimately would open it in his face then walk inside with it and tell him to fuck himself.

No right, but I'd never curse at my delivery guy. That seems to be inviting future pain, since we're all breaking the rules of FedEx.

Maybe not the place for it, but it's been a bit since I shipped a box via UPS. A description of what you are shipping is now a requirement. This is definitely new over the last few months. I went with hot sauce this time, but maybe next time it'll have to be maple syrup. Was something that changed when they did the updated terms and conditions?

Regarding Fed Ex stories, I've had a few, but they've always delivered it in the end. I had a box I was shipping to one of the surrounding great lakes states, I don't recall which one exactly. Box went MIA and popped up 2 or 3 days later in Texas. They put it right back in the system and it got where it was supposed to go pretty quick from there. I had a case opened, but I'm not sure what that really did as they wanted to wait some more business days before, "Investigating."

This one is UPS, but a fellow BA sent me some Pulpit Rock over the summer. Box was on the truck (we usually get our UPS packages b/w 11 and 12). My wife gets her package and I get nothing. All day long it says it's on the truck. Then around 8pm tracking shows damaged and returned to shipper. I called the local warehouse ASAP and they told me they already re-packaged it and is on a truck back to IA over a very hot weekend. I, very politely, asked if I could come get whatever was left instead of it being sent back and they said once it's on the truck they cannot get it for me. So back to IA it goes. Another can explodes when it is on the way back to IA and they have to repackage it again! Neither of us got a letter or nasty-gram. He just sent me a new box a few days later and it came no problem.

    Moral(s) of the story:
    1. Don't ship PR beers when it's hot as balls. Even one state away. They'll explode on you!
    2. It seems to really depend on who handles your package. UPS had to repackage this box twice, I even called and asked to pick it up and played dumb with what was inside, and they never said boo to us in the end.

Oh, and I pretty much never drop at actual UPS or FedEx locations unless I absolutely have. I usually drop off at the mom and pop shipping/storage unit place at my corner. They NEVER ask questions except, "How are you today?" I even learned I can drop USPS Priority mail boxes there for pick up. Double bonus when you can ship a box to CA for under $20 in less than 48 hours, and I get to avoid the dreaded, "Anything liquid, hazardous, or perishable?" interrogation.

Man, I love PR but i’ve had multiple cans of theirs explode and would never ship them. I didn’t even know exploding stout cans was a thing until my first trip to Iowa. Live and learn I guess.

LOL. And it was a stout can that popped. Believe it was the lactose that did it. Maybe some pastry sour went too.

And agreed, their beers were great! The situation got so comical all we could was laugh about it and speculate which ones were exploding until he got hem back.

I 'started a maple syrup company' and drive it home by putting the company name as my return address. so far no one has given me a second glance.
