So ive really gotten into this style, while im not the biggest barleywine fan for some reason when it touches a barrel it can become magical, and completely different beer

i was thinking about making a bif revovling around ba barelwines, searched the forums and havnt seen one yet. i was thinking of 80oz of ba barlwine only, with 1 bottle being local. there are so many good ones out there i think its very doable, especailly by other ba bwine lovers.

if theres enough interest ill get this bad boy started. not sure on how many people we should cap it at, any suggestions and input very welcome!

    if ur interested post here

I think this would be better if offered in Dec/Jan. Getting to the warm weather time.

I agree, and think that a general BW option could play out as well.

IF it where BA only the bar for entry would be pretty high.

Well even if I made it barleywine with only 1 ba barleywine the response has been so low i doudbt I'd get 10 guys. Ideally this was meant for the barleywine lover who if were anything like me have barelywines ready to swap for other barleywine. I personally don't need it to be winter to drink these bad boys and with beers like mirror mirror getting released right now I guess some breweries don't think so either. But this thread is evidence that I actually am in the minority

    Thanks for the reponses

I love BWs, too. I can only think of a handful of BA BWs that make it to my distro, and that includes BCBW, Sucaba, Insanity. Hardwoody and DuClaw are BA local options, but I have to make trades to get Central Waters or any other BA BW.

I think doing BW-only, even if you relax the BA requirement, might be the barrier to entry. You'd probably get a lot of interest (myself included) if the requirement was one BA BW, one BW, and then say 80 oz of anything. I'd love to try out some other BWs but just dont have enough variety available to me to get 6 different ones, and I'm guessing others might feel the same.

If you decide to take my suggestion on the entry, consider this my "I'm in".

yeah i thought abot that orignally but i real;ly wanted to focus it, under the assumption that there was 10 or so folks like me who love ba bwines. apperently my assumption was wrong as ive had very little interets. I just didnt want half the folks sending BCBW and Sucaba to meet the requirement. i want people to dig deeper to awesome beers that might not even be on here

but im down, if i can get the interest ill make it happen

    1 BA barlwine
    1 regular barleywine

    60oz of anything else

if your interested to participate post here, if we get a few more folks to chime in ill make an official NBO

Yeah I'm definitely down for that. I think your original assumption is correct that there is interest in BA BW, but that's a very specific thing to base an entire BIF around, and I think opening the rest up to anything else will help.

I agree with your point about those two, maybe add a 'suggestion' to not use Sucaba or BCBW for the 1 BA BW unless it's a want for your target (in my case for example I'd be interested in vintage bottles of either one, but was able to get my hands on the most recent one of each).

I could do a quick turn around (say by the end of April) but then I'll be gone until the third week of May.
