I had a tremendously fresh Sculpin grapefruit ipa last night for dinner. It came in a proper glass with about an inch and a half of dense foam. Just a note for Myrthe Beach goers, we found a brand new Chicago Pizza and Taproom on 17 S in Surfside Beach. Maybe 30 taps or so I didn't count, but most styles represented. IMO the best beer selection I've seen at the beach, the pizza was terrific, the owner is from Chicago only been open since May. I'd highly recommend it.

Other than that I can take or leave adjuncts in my ipas, well done is well done, and larger Brewers might struggle to find hop combos difficult to replicate and difficult to do in large batches. . Constistency counts too.

I don't mind adjuncts in the grain bill but dislike added flavors unless they come from being aged in a barrel. That would be true for any beer not just an IPA.

No, FMB's and cider aren't "Craft Beers" according to the B.A (regardless of brewer/manufacturer*) and in second sentence I quoted above:

So, they (or IRI, at least) recognizes a broad segment of "Infused Beers" and making up that group, the subset of "Infused Craft Beers", as well as "FMBs", "Cider", "Imports" and "All Other Domestic".

    * Of course, that is also stated in the "Traditional" section of The Brewers Association's 3 Part "Craft Brewer" definition:

Yes,people do not seem to grasp the meaning of adjunct and confuse it with addition or additive.
Adjuncts are strictly speaking unmodified sources of carbohydrate which require (and mop up) surplus enzymes from the malt to create fermentable sugars.

My general take on flavorings is this- if it's something that already is a part of the flavor profile, then the flavoring agent will come across as tonally incongruent, an element separate and apart from the beer. Like drawing with a sharpie on a watercolor. Fruit in an IPA; coffee and chocolate in a porter/stout; etc., all fall into this category. I don't really seek these out.

Hopslam: awesome. Brewed with honey. (Adjunct)
Sagefight: awesome. Brewed with sage. (Flavoring)
Sidecar: awesome. Brewed with orange peel. (Flavoring)
Oatsmobile: awesome. Brewed with oats. (Adjunct)
Grapefruit Sculpin: awesome. Brewed with grapefruit. (Flavoring)
Watermelon Dorado: awesome. Brewed with watermelon. (Flavoring)

In each of these, the adjunct or flavoring contributes to the overall profile of the beer and complements the other ingredients. Instead of pre-judging an entire category based on your feelings, let your taste buds decide. Pay attention to what the brewer is trying to accomplish and appreciate the craft for what it is.

If beer is good beer is good. I don't see where anything is a debate. From King Julius to Two Hearted to Stone Enjoy By to something with adjuncts in it. If it tastes good , and you can get it then pick it up.

Not a fan of adjuncts in any style beer. I love how people will praise fruit infused Up as but bash Bud Rita products.

Thanks. I totally missed the distinction in your quoted material that stated "Infused Beers" and "Infused Craft beers." That's not potentially confusing.

I love how people bash Budweiser bit but think PBR is a gift from God!

I generally am against fruit in beers but I have had some very good ones. I'm hesitant whenever I see it but if I read good things about it I'll give it a shot

Generally they don't do much for me because the flavors seem either too sweet or not even present, but 21A Blood Orange Brew Free or Die is a killer beer. Perfectly straddles between punch of fruit and hop bitterness

I've seen PBR make many people shit themselves. Literally shit them self.

Good examples, even though I haven't tried all of these. Looking at the responses it seems people are mixed. I think I might be open to trying flavored IPAs in the future, with a different perspective.

And I guess I won't misuse the term adjunct I the future...

Let's see, how many centuries have the Belgians been brewing with cherries, spices and suchlike? I've lost count.

Could it really be "craft beer" without confusion? What would there be to argue about over beers, otherwise?

    Adjuncts
    Imperial
    Haze
    Born on
    Kolsch - ale or lager
    Ownership
    Whole vs broken rice
    Reinheitsgebot
    "Steam beer"
    Coloring
    Bock beer from dregs
    Czechvar
    Three-threads

... it's endless... which is a good thing because once brewers start using the indie seal all the craft confusion should melt away.
