I typically brew a different beer every year for each of the 4 golf Majors. If that isn't nerdy enough, I typically try to brew something or add an ingredient that's related to where the event is being held. Obviously the Masters is the same place every year. Help give me ideas on beers for this year:

    Masters- Augusta National, Augusta, GA

U.S. Open- Pinehurst Resort (No. 2 Course), Village of Pinehurst, N.C.

Open Championship- Royal Liverpool, Hoylake, England

PGA Championship- Valhalla Golf Club, Louisville, Ky.

    Let's hear em'.

    Masters - peach saison
US Open - rauchbier (kinda barbecuey?) or a Bud Light clone
Open Championship - Mild or bitter...or maybe something with tea leaves
PGA Championship - Something reminiscent of a mint julep...I brewed a light lager base beer and added jalapeno, mint, and lime (per a friend's request), and the mint/lime combo came through surprisingly nicely.

Similar thought, but juniper. Suppose you could also come up with a recipe that uses some hops that add a good amount of piney notes.

Do some research on the local beer scene for each site and try to build inspiration or clone recipes.
Example: Terrapin Beer Co is in Georgia and I believe you can find a clone recipe or two online. You can use beer mapping tools to find breweries close to the site, you can visit their web pages to figure out what you would order if you were there, and then you can use any recipe info out there to make something inspired by the object of your research. Or you could just brew whatever you like to drink.

Masters - Monotonous Melomel peach Mead
U.S. Open - Lobotomy Light Lager
    Open Championship - Paint-drying Porter
PGA Championship - Boredom Bourbon Barrel stout

Just kidding. I'm one who would rather eat glass than watch golf. But to each his own.

I like where your head is at. I had a Masters Party last year where I brew up a few mediocre beers for. This year I'm doing the same but hope the beers come out better.

    Masters- Augusta National, Augusta, GA
Peach Wheat Beer or Peach Berliner Weiss, both refreshing and have the whole peach theme going on. Alternatively, a wit beer using magnolia leaves (no idea on taste here).

U.S. Open- Pinehurst Resort (No. 2 Course), Village of Pinehurst, N.C.
Keeping with the Pine theme, a punishingly bitter IPA hopped with chinook and simcoe. Perfect to drink while watching pros shoot in the 80s and chop it up. Had the opportunity to play Olympic Club right after the open (Played DII college golf), and jesus it was tough.

Open Championship- Royal Liverpool, Hoylake, England
Milk stout. Its usually cold as shit at the Open and miserable; since milk stout originated in the UK and is great to drink on a nice cold day...

PGA Championship- Valhalla Golf Club, Louisville, Ky.
Kentucky Common (Google for specifics) or an Old Ale/Barleywine aged in spirit barrels or oak cubes.

You could have expanded this - this weekend you could have done something with prickly pear (cactus) to match the Scottsdale / Pheonix location.

I like the peach recommendations for the Masters, but a brown ale with pecans would also be appropriate and delicious if you can figure out how to do it.

This thread inspired me to try a peach saison for the masters. What aroma hop do you think would meld best with a peach beer?

I like this thread. I'm a huge golfer, and the Masters is my favorite, absolute favorite time of year. I'm a member at a club and live on a hole, and I love to sit out and offer beers to guys that make their way up looking for a drive, or offer a "top up" from the keezer in their cups when we reach my home hole.

I'd actually say a peach berliner would be great. Maybe even dry hop it with some black tea to toss back in a little dryness and the notes of a tart peach tea would be fun.

Barf pretty much hit most of what I was going to suggest, and ironically even the Kentucky common, but I was thinking of a good english bitter for the open. It's a style I'm not crazy about, and I'm not all that interested in the Open myself at times. Bitter and cold.. perfect for a drink, not a round of golf!

I think Amarillo plays great with peaches.

Calypso would be the hop I'd use for a Sweet Peach Tea Saison, or berliner. It has a dark tea, lemon-y tart thing going on that would blend well with peach.

Galaxy might work, but could be pretty powerful.

How about something "piney" to go with the pine straw?

I'll probably do two beers. I was thinking of an IPA for the other, so I think there would be an element of pine there. Thanks

Wait a minute... Chemist, check. Golf fanaticism, check. Love of brewing and drinking beer, check.... Did we get separated at birth?
