Just became aware of a nano-brewery in Carson, Iowa called the CIB Brewery. They sell them selves as producers of high abv vintage ales.

I was wondering if anyone out there is familiar with them or their beers. And if you are, what do you think of their beer, their approach, them, etc.?

Yeah, had 3 of them. Great packaging. Sure fooled me. Tasted like amateur homebrew. Almost undrinkable to be honest. The morning wood was easiest to choke down. The other two, I had to drain pour. From what I heard, after I bought, of course... Is that they are an all extract brewery. Sounds like they need to get their shit together. Amazing packaging... Poor delivery.

We have the brown and coffee stout in stock here at John's. I'd like to try them but the $13 price tag and having to deal with a waxed top has stopped me from pulling the trigger.

I had The Countess Sour Ale at the fair on Sun. It was meh, as was the entire craft beer tent.

I tasted morning wood and another one of their brews at a beer fest in February 2012. They had just recently opened, but the beers were bad. very watery, lacking flavor, just "off". I am not tempted to buy a bottle at any price. I hope to taste them at another beer fest to see if things have improved. Again, my only tastes were very early in their production.

I am a home brewer and I would never dream of selling extract beers! If your going to sell your beer the only way to provide a quality product is brewing all grain.

I am sorry to hear all of this. Perhaps with a little time, they will work out the kinks.

The wax is VERY crumbly. Made a huge mess on my counter. I do like the pull tab on them though, I wish more breweries had them. Made opening easy, but I am still picking up wax off the floor from a month ago.

I agree with what everyone else has said. They are real nice guys, who I feel went in way over their heads way too fast. I love the idea behind each style and the crazy experimental combinations, and I like their packaging, but the beer just isn't good. It tastes like mediocre homebrew; I hope they get things figured out. But you just can't sell beer that is made using malt extract.

That is the only one of CIBs beers that I have enjoyed. I also had it at the Fair Craft Beer Tent.

I picked up a bottle of Cherri Tart at John's last fall. I have not drank it yet. I understand it does not contain cherries which is a bit misleading.
