My last girlfriend actually got me into the craft beer scene...now she's my wife.

I don't run into many people that enjoy beer as much as I do, especially women. But I must say, she loves the hoppy nectar, and that's just fine with me. Makes things easier when dropping a car payment on beer when we go on vacation.

My sister loves lambics. I have traded with 2 females on here. I will be homebrewing in the new year with a female friend and I get hooked up by a female beer friend on a monthly basis while I've lived in AK. Nothin' wrong with female drinkers.

To the contrary, I think I'd go in the opposite extreme and say that there's everything right about female drinkers. They certainly make drinking craft beer look better than I ever could.

My wife loves great beer and her friends come over to try stuff all the time. I think women are alot more open to new beer than alot of men are.

I can agree with that, but I think I hear what Vidarose is sayin, and lemme put it a different way: if beer really is the "social lubricant" we all say it is, then let's just throw stereotypes aside and drink and be merry. Who cares who you are. You joined this site for a reason.

You have a problem if you're dropping a car payment on beer during a single vacation. There's upsides to having a gf who likes beer  but the cost isn't one of them.

Idk... I'd rather drop a car payment on beer with someone, especially someone who understood and who wouldn't complain about lugging cases of heavy beer around. So much more fun when you have someone to spend that kind of money with... :-)

So you're telling me, you have the opportunity to make a trip to 3 Floyds (Dark Lord Day), Half Acre, and Goose Island...not to mention all of the beers that aren't distributed to your area...you wouldn't drop between $300 and $500? I'd do it again and never blink an eye...

Beer vacations... If you make the trip to a faraway land just for beer, you might as well drop a few hundred bucks to cart some great beer back

Geez...don't like the topic, DON'T READ IT. Pretty simple. Oh, and good for you and your accomplishments, sounds like a dream business.
This thread is on it's sixth page, so obviously there is interest in this topic????
I'm new to BA and am enjoying the ride thus far, and typically read the topics on the first page, usually newer posted topics. Shame on me for not digging way back and finding a similar thread.
I for one treat women as equal, and when I'm in a pub I happen to notice that there are actually women in there too. What a culture shock! NOT!!

For what it's worth, my wife hates IPA's, but does love Chimay and her current favorite is Allagash White. I can't believe she actually enjoys it. Shocking, shocking I say...

My wife is directly responsible for getting me into craft beer, starting shortly after we started dating. I think I would have gotten there / here eventually, but it's all her fault. She's also gotten me into going to beer festivals. I've become a bit more of a beer nerd than she has, but our tastes mostly overlap so buying stuff is easy.

But thinking about the breakdown of some of our couple friends, it's a fairly even distribution between craft beer geeks, folks who are indifferent but will try stuff, folks who will only drink macro beer and Coors Light specifically, and one who thinks all beer tastes and smells like Miller Light (and is married to a craft beer geek). Gender doesn't really line up.

There was one softball night where I brought Finnegan's Amber and Bud Light Platinum (understanding the dynamic of the team is important - and spending extra money on beer that I like for a team that won't just isn't worth it) and my new brother in law looked at both beers and he, quite seriously, expressed a confusion about either beer and if they were too fancy.

That last notion kills me... the idea that there is beer that is "too fancy" to be beer. Every time I hear someone express that sentiment, I want whack him or her upside the head with the Reinheitsgebot and say beer shouldn't be made from corn.

That being said, I know lots of craft brews use ingredients that don't comport with the Reinheitsgebot, but it irks me to no end that some people believe there's something wrong with craft beer, as opposed to be something wrong with light beer swill

I agree completely. We assured him that the BL Platinum was pretty much like any other bud / bud light / product out there. It might be made with a little bit more flavor, it might not, but it's going to be what he expects from it.

And Finnegan's is fairly common / popular iin Minnesota, so I'm not sure if he just doesn't like it or doesn't remember, but I know that he's had it.

To answer both of you, I never take a vacation solely for beer. If there's great beer where I'm already going it's a nice bonus. Even when there is I would never spend even $300, I mostly like the bigger BA stouts which sadly are usually limited releases. So unless I happen to be there during a release, I generally don't buy anything to bring back. Shipping is a killer, and it seems like more and more breweries everyday don't understand that a 750 of beer, no matter how good it might be, shouldn't cost the same as a 750 of wine.

Have any BAs attended a girls pint out event? There is a new "chapter" starting in New Orleans with their first event happening tomorrow night. I have mixed emotions about it. I feel like it would be a great way to meet new women craft beer lovers, but also that it is creating more segregation by pointing out that we are in fact women who enjoy craft beer. Just wondering if any one has gone to an event and what their experience was like?

My wife and I split every new beer we open, so we can both try them all. Being larger, much larger, I'll have a more common beer inbetween.

My wife actually got me into, craft beer. She was more adventurous than I was when we first got together.

I hope you go and report back on this thread.

I think women who love great beer should get together if they want and not worry about it. (Obviously they already do.) Forget what some idiot men or anybody else will think ~ or what societal impacts there might be. I don't see any downside to this activity for our species. : )

I for one find it comforting that women are doing this more and more. It adds a strong dynamic and more credibility to craft beer as far as I'm concerned.

there is a fair amount of sexism on this site, but what do you expect when its 95%+ male? i'm sure the vast majority of the people (men) here would like nothing more than to see more females in the scene.

There are plenty of women out there who are into craft beer, they just don't brag about it as much as guys.
