Looking back over some articles when the dedicated sour program was first announced in January 2012, Brendan is quoted as saying "We need to be brewing beers now to sell in 18 months or two years time".

    http://craftypint.com/news/post/nailed-on-funk/

It's now approaching two and a half years, so Feral has either run into some issues or I completely misconstrued the focus of the program, and most of the output is comprised of releases we're seeing already (Watermelon Warhead, Kelis, as well as constant supplies of Funky Junky and Dark Funk for the brewery), meaning we should forget altogether about expecting a string of lambics down the track, much less a Gueuze or three.

Can anyone shed some light on the current situation?

Not really sure what made you think there would be a bunch of lambics of gueuze.

There are quite a number of sours (less then 6 months, upwards of five years) sitting around. Sours take time and are difficult because you have to keep everything completely separate from the rest of the brewery so as not to infect everything else.

    Perhaps it was this paragraph:

"His sour obsession can be traced to a bottle of Liefman Goudenband and has since led him to visit sour ale experts Russian River in the States several times, including attending one of the brewery’s Sour Beer Symposiums"

Okay, maybe expecting a Gueuze was a little optimistic, but I could be forgiven for thinking something with a nod to the Russian River "ation" series was in the wings, no?

Well...I mean...even seeing Feral's lambic on tap again would be an advancement seeing as we saw it two years ago but never since...I would have thought you'd brew more sour beers after starting a sour program, rather than less. Although please don't deprive Sydney of Warhead for my insubordination. Just brew a couple of batches of berlinner with peaches and/or blueberries instead of (or in addition to) watermelon and we'll call it even.

Your best bet is probably still the Great Northern Hotel in Carlton or North Carlton.

Who says we have brewed less?

I am starting to think people on here don't understand how difficult sour beer actually is. Because things aren't released doesn't mean things aren't happening. We aren't just going to throw stuff out there for the sake of it, especially when it is not ready.

Their beers will never be ready. Doesn't help when, stylistically, you're extremely schizophrenic, with the only consistency being extreme mediocrity.

Red Duck not helped by some stores stocking a massive range of theirs, half hoppy, half not, thus the hoppy ones sit on shelves, and sit, .... and sit ......... and sit..........

Why would you say that?! I've been local for nearly 3 years and have no recollection of a Feral sour on tap at GNH. Terminus, Alehouse and Taphouse and others probably more likely, though hardly consistent.

Are you in Melbourne now ubiq3000? Or heading here soon? I'm batshit crazy for sours (drinking and brewing) and would love to geek out if you're in town or heading here soon.

Last time i was in Melbourne i was told by a staff member of a bottleshop that they were the best place to find Feral on tap & from my travels, they were. I was also told a staff member/owner/licensee at the GNH was related to someone at Feral.

Things could well have changed. Sounds like they may well have.

The owner used to have a stake in Feral, and his brother still does. Hop Hog is always on tap, and there is a very occasional specialty (e.g. Boris) though I haven't seen anything other than Hop Hog for a very long time. Not a great place to drink Hop Hog either - in my experience it's generally not quite right (stale, poorly stored or poor line maintenance - or all of the above).
