I'm brewing a few beers within a couple days and I meant to order some FermCap because I can't find it around here, but I forgot... Anyway I've really been pushing the limits of my pot and fighting boilovers constantly. Aside from brewing smaller batches, does anyone have an over the counter product that might work to prevent boilover? I've read that gas-x might work on HBT. Anyone tried this? thanks in advance.
Gas-x is the same thing as fermcap (polydimethylsiloxanes). Try to find it without flavoring. I'd pop the capsule with a pin and squeeze out the liquid rather than just throwing it in. You can also just knock down the foam with a spray bottle of cold water but you'd have to stand right by your kettle for awhile.
